BARF vs Pawy diet / Can I order raw?

Updated over a year ago

Numerous studies show that there are health risks for animals fed raw meat (BARF).

Our veterinarians, graduates of the University of Bern, with a specialization in canine/feline nutrition from the Swiss Veterinary Institute, recommend gentle steaming for our Pawy meals.

Bacteria

Raw meat often contains dangerous bacteria (Salmonella, E. Coli, Listeria and Campylobacter, etc.).

As shown in the study published in 24heures.ch, "Raw meat for dogs is a danger", more than 71% of the raw meat sampled by researchers from the University of Zurich (UZH), exceeded the recommended threshold for enterobacteria.

The samples contained Salmonella and Escherichia Coli bacteria, which are very dangerous for humans and animals.

Ingestion of any of these bacteria can lead to vomiting, diarrhea, fever and in severe cases, can even lead to death. In addition, when your pet eats raw meat contaminated with one or more of these bacteria, it also poses a risk to you and your family (because you are handling contaminated raw meat and its bacteria will also be present in excrement).

"Recent scientific studies have shown that almost all BARFs (whether commercial or homemade) are contaminated with bacteria, just like any raw, unprocessed meat."

The American Association of Animal Hospitals declared that:

"Homemade raw food diets are not safe because they may be contaminated with pathogens."

At Pawy, our ingredients are gently steamed to retain all the nutritional value but eliminate the risk of harmful bacteria.

As a bonus, steam cooking reduces dust mites and helps reduce environmental and food allergies.

Can I order Pawy raw?

For the food safety reasons mentioned above and in an effort to protect your health and the one of your pet, we do not offer our Pawy recipes raw.
