If you have a Reserve Fund equity or Reserve Fund liability account on your Balance Sheet please reference these articles instead.

If your goal is to show your transfers to your reserve account on both the income and expense section of your Budget and Profit & Loss report this article will guide you on the steps to accomplish that.

Before you start, you'll need to have an income and expense category to use for this purpose. To create these, you'll go to Budgets > Edit Categories.

Create Categories:

You will then go to Income Categories > Add Income Category. You can call this category Reserve Contribution, Transfer to Reserves, or any other preferred name.

Then you'll go to Expense Categories > Add Expense Category and add a matching expense category.

If you plan to use these categories immediately it is recommended that you complete a hard refresh of your browser to ensure that your new categories populate in the category drop downs.

Code Transfers:

If both your Operating and Reserve bank accounts are linked, the reserve transfer will pull through on both bank links and look similarly to this.

As you can see, the Reserve account will show a green deposit transaction and the Operating account will show a black expenditure transaction.

You will code the green deposit transfer to the income category you created earlier in this article. You will then code the black expenditure transfer to the expense category you created.

If your bank accounts are not linked you'll simply enter these transactions manually by going to Transactions > Actions > Add a Transaction.

This will show the amount you've transferred to your reserves on your Budget and Profit & Loss reports, without affecting your Net Total for the period.

Alternatively, if you are trying to reduce your Net Total by the amount of your reserve transfers, and show those funds moving to a Reserve Fund Equity or Reserve Fund Liability, you will reference the articles below instead.
