If an applicant registers using a manager-provided registration link after being approved to move in, their PayYourRent account is created as an active tenant account, and no applicant activation is required.
If an applicant registers and submits an application fee or security deposit that is not associated with a specific unit, their account is created as an applicant account. An applicant account is activated when a manager selects Add Tenant and completes the required fields, including the unit number, move-in date, and accepted payment types.
When Manager Action Is Required
You need to activate an applicant account if all of the following apply:
The applicant has submitted an application fee or security deposit
The applicant has been approved to move in
The applicant has not yet been linked to a unit
You see an Add Tenant option associated with the applicant’s payment or record
Applicants who apply through an application link remain applicant accounts until they are manually activated. If activation is not completed at the time of approval, the account will remain inactive, which is a common cause of tenant access issues.
When No Action Is Required
No action is needed if:
The tenant registered using a manager-provided signup link or invitation that included a unit number, and
The account is already tied to a unit and move-in date
What an Applicant Account Means
Applicant accounts are created when a tenant pays an application fee or security deposit
Applicant accounts are not linked to a unit by default
Applicant accounts cannot function as active tenant accounts until activated
Activating the account converts the applicant into an active tenant account
How to Activate an Applicant Account
Log in to your Manager Portal
Navigate to Payments
Locate the application fee or security deposit payment
Select Add Tenant next to the payment
On the Add Tenant page, complete the required fields:
Unit number
Move-in date
Accepted payment types
Select Add
Selecting Add Tenant and completing the required fields activates the account and converts it into an active tenant account.
Important Notes
A tenant’s ability to access tenant features is controlled by the Move-In and Move-Out dates
A future tenant may be able to log in after activation; however, tenant information and features will not appear until the Move-In date
If the Move-Out date has passed, access will be disabled
If the unit number is missing, the account will remain inactive
If the payment used to create the applicant account is submitted or declined, activation may not complete
If the wrong unit is selected, the account may be linked incorrectly, and Support assistance may be required
When to Contact Support
Contact Support if:
The incorrect unit was selected during activation
