What is Athletic Fitness?

How to access programs for general fitness applications in Peak Strength.

Written by Ivan Escott

The Athletic Fitness path in Peak Strength is the alternative to selecting sport-specific or tactical readiness training goals. Athletic fitness is the term that we use to describe the pursuit of non-competitive fitness goals, but still having the ability to train through an athletic lens.

To access the Athletic Fitness training goals head into the training tab > select the cog in the upper left hand corner > Click “Edit” > select “Rebuild my training plan” > click “training goal” > select “Train for a goal” > select “Athletic Fitness”.

Now you will be able to pick your primary training focus. There are multiple focuses you can choose under the Athletic Fitness path:

Athletic Muscle

The muscle focus provides training focusing on hypertrophy of the upper and lower body with high volume and various unique exercises to keep training engaging and effective, all while not ignoring athleticism and fitness.

Athletic Strength

The strength focus is going to provide a program that focuses on full-body strength development, specifically with the bench press, squat, and deadlift. However, it is more than a powerlifting program; it includes athletic, explosive, and cardio training.

Full Body Training

If you are only training 1 or 2 times a week or prefer a full body split, this focus will let you hit upper and lower body each day. Training still focuses on athletic movements and will still prioritize upper or lower body each day while providing a variety of movements.

Functional Strength

The functional focus is going to provide workouts that are meant to improve overall movement and emphasize the use of Olympic weightlifting movements (snatch, cleans, jerks, etc.)

This focus is for people that want to improve their coordination and functionality of their body for daily life. This program combines Olympic weightlifting with plyometric, hypertrophy, and cardio training. It will help you feel powerful and athletic while improving fitness and longevity.

Hybrid Fitness

Combine advanced weightlifting movements, strength, MetCons, and cardio to build a well-rounded training base for any competition. This training plans aligns most closely with CrossFit or HYROX style training.

Time Crunch

Most training plans have workouts that last around 60 minutes. If you only have 30 minutes to train on a regular basis, this training plan prioritizes your lifts to give you the most bang for your buck in a half hour.

Total Athletic Fitness focus

As our most highly selected training plan, Total Athletic Fitness combines all aspects of athlete training into a single plan. Choose this focus if you want to build a well rounded athletic physique and performance.
