The Athletic Fitness path in Peak Strength is the alternative to selecting a sport-specific strength training program. Athletic fitness is the term that we use to describe the pursuit of non-competitive fitness goals, while still having the ability to train through an athletic lens.
There are 5 primary focuses and general fitness goals under the Athletic Fitness path:
Functional focus
The functional focus is going to provide workouts that are meant to improve overall movement and emphasize the use of Olympic weightlifting movements (snatch, cleans, jerks, etc.)
This focus is for people that want to improve their coordination and functionality of their body for daily life. This program combines Olympic weightlifting with plyometric, hypertrophy, and cardio training. It will help you feel powerful and athletic while improving fitness and longevity.
Muscle focus
The muscle focus is going to provide a program focusing on hypertrophy of the upper and lower body with high volume and various unique exercises to keep training engaging and effective, all while not ignoring athleticism and fitness.
Strength focus
The strength focus is going to provide a program that focuses on full-body strength development, specifically with the bench press, squat, and deadlift. However, it is more than a powerlifting program; it includes athletic, explosive, and cardio training.
Total Athletic Fitness focus
This program combines four programs into one, letting you pick from four different workout focuses including strength, hypertrophy, explosiveness, and endurance. It is recommended to choose one workout to perform each day, depending on your interests and goals for that day.
Note: this is the program we recommend for Crossfit athletes using Peak Strength.
Weight Loss focus
The weight loss focus is going to provide a program that complements your weight loss journey by providing training that will burn calories and increase muscle tone, strength, and fitness each day. This is the program where cardio and endurance is prioritized over strength and hypertrophy.
If you are not training toward any of the listed goals, there is also an option to select “I don’t have a focus” for a more general strength training program.
