When you enter a Space in Pencil Spaces, you’ll be able to access video controls including Recording after starting or joining the call.

To record your sessions, click on the 3 dots on the right side of your video controls to reveal 2 more options: Recording, and Audio and video settings.

If your video is already expanded into a full-screen view, you will see the "Record" option at the bottom of your page.

When you click on the "Record" button, you will see this pop-up on your screen, as shown below. It may seem like you're about to screen share, but this actually allows you to choose which screen you would like to record.

If you’re using Spaces on Chrome, you’ll have the option to choose between recording your entire screen, a specific window, or a singular Chrome tab.

Select the screen that you want to share, and click the “Share” button in the bottom right corner of the pop-up window when it turns blue.

If you’re using Chrome to run Spaces, you’ll have two indicators that your recording is currently running. If you look to the right-hand side of your Chrome tab, you’ll see a red circle on your tab. Additionally, the red circle button on your video control bar will be highlighted in blue.

How do I stop recording my screen?

When you’re finished recording your screen, there are two ways to end the recording. If you’re on Chrome, you’ll notice that as soon as you start recording, a pop-up appears at the bottom of your screen letting you know that Spaces is sharing your screen. Click the blue “Stop sharing” button on that pop-up to end your recording session.

Alternatively, you can simply click the recording button on the Spaces video toolbar to pause or stop your recording.

If you pause your recording, you can resume it at any time by clicking on the record button and clicking on "Resume Recording".

How do I access my recordings?

As soon as you’ve finished recording your session, Spaces will open a pop-up showing you a preview of your recording. If you use the free version of Pencil Spaces, you will only have the ability to save recordings to your computer.

However, if you have Pencil Premium, you can save recordings to the cloud (Pencil Files), your own computer, or to both.

Once you choose where you want to save your recording, click "Confirm and save" to start saving your recording. However, if you want to cancel the recording, click "Cancel".

Once you click "Confirm and Save" the file will automatically be downloaded to your computer as a .webm file.

If you choose to save your recordings to the cloud, you will see the indicator below, showing that your video is being uploaded to the cloud. Once the recording has been uploaded to the cloud, you will receive an email notifying you.

There are two ways to access your recording once it has been uploaded. To access your recordings directly from Spaces, go to the Pencil App home page, and navigate to Files. For a refresher on Files, read through this article:

Once you’ve entered Files, you can use the search bar to search for your recording or scroll through your files to find it. Additionally, each time a recording has been automatically uploaded to Files, Pencil will send you an email that tells you the upload was successful and provides you with a link directly to your recording.

From there, you can watch and share your recording.
