1. How to create Breakout Rooms

Breakout Rooms are a great way to separate students for more focused learning. To create a breakout room, follow these steps:

  • You will see that you are currently in the “Main Room” as suggested here on the top bar.

  • To create a breakout room, click on Boards on the bottom left side of your Space.

  • Above your Board search bar, select Manage rooms.

  • You’ll then be taken to a room management page where you’ll be able to create new rooms and assign participants to them.

  • To create a new breakout room, click on “+ New Room” at the top right-hand side of your screen, or select the box beside the Main Room , Create New Room.

  • From there, you can drag and drop participants into their respective rooms. It’s important to note that in order to assign students to breakout rooms, they have to already be invited to the Space/have access to the Space.

  • Breakout rooms will automatically be named after the number of rooms created. For example, the first breakout room you create will be named Room 2 because this is the second room in your Space. You can rename or delete your breakout rooms by simply clicking the 3-dots next to the room name and select Rename or Delete from the drop down menu.

  • A board is created by default for each breakout room that you create. You can also drag and move any of your existing boards to a breakout room. To learn more about how to move boards from one room to another, check out this article.

  • Once you’re satisfied with the changes you’ve made, click Done to enable the changes you’ve made.

  • If you’ve assigned students to breakout rooms and they’re already in the Space, they’ll automatically be sent to their breakout room. If students have yet to join the Space, when they do, they will automatically be sent to their breakout rooms without joining the main room.

  • These changes are not permanent. You can always bring your students back to the main room by clicking the 3-dots next to the room name and selecting Recall to Main Room from the drop down menu.

2. How to move between Breakout Rooms

  • As the host, you have the ability to hop back and forth between breakout rooms by simply clicking on “Join”, placed on top of every breakout room you’d like to enter.

  • You can always move to another breakout room or rejoin the Main Room by returning to the room management page via Manage Rooms.
