Apply Compass AI over Fast Feedback

Use Compass AI to analyse and summarise fast feedback across your organisation. This guide shows you how to generate AI-powered summaries in dashboards and reviews, and how admins can customise prompts to suit your needs.

Fast feedback is a powerful way to capture real-time insights about your people, but making sense of it all can be overwhelming. That's where Compass AI comes in. In this guide, you'll learn how to use AI to automatically generate meaningful summaries of fast feedback, both in your dashboard and within performance reviews. We'll also show admins how to customise the AI prompts to better reflect your organisation's language and priorities.

Generating AI summaries in your fast feedback dashboard

Your fast feedback dashboard gives you a quick overview of all the feedback flowing through your system. AI can help you make sense of this stream by creating instant summaries.

  1. Navigate to your fast feedback dashboard to view your stream of feedback.

  2. Click the Generate summary button.

  3. The AI will analyse the feedback and produce a concise summary highlighting key themes and insights.

  4. You can interact with the AI directly in this view to ask follow-up questions or refine the summary.

Using AI summaries in performance reviews

Fast feedback summaries can also be integrated directly into performance reviews, giving reviewers a consolidated view of ongoing feedback without leaving the review workflow.

  1. Open the performance review where you'd like to include fast feedback.

  2. Bring the relevant fast feedback into the review (this option will be available within the review interface).

  3. Click Generate summary to create an actionable summary of that feedback.

  4. The AI-generated summary will appear in the review, structured to highlight key points and suggested actions.

Note: Within the review interface, users cannot interact with the AI or ask follow-up questions. The summary is presented as-is based on the configured prompt.

Customising AI prompts

Admins can tailor how Compass AI summarises fast feedback by editing the underlying prompt. This allows you to adjust the tone, structure, and focus to match your organisation's needs.

  1. Go to Settings > Compass AI > Prompts.

  2. You'll see a list of modules and the prompts used for each. Locate the prompt for Fast Feedback Summaries.

  3. Click the pencil icon next to the prompt to edit it.

  4. You can either rewrite the prompt from scratch or copy the existing content and make adjustments (e.g., removing emojis, changing the structure, or adding specific instructions).

  5. Once you're happy with your changes, click Save.

  6. Refresh your browser to clear the cache and ensure the new prompt takes effect.

šŸ’” Pro tip: The default prompt is designed to work well out of the box, but customising it can help align the summaries with your company's language, values, and review processes.

JSON Feedback:

The AI prompt determines how feedback is analysed and presented. When you view a summary in your dashboard or review, you'll notice the structure closely mirrors the prompt design. For example, if the prompt includes sections for "Key themes," "Sentiment," and "Recommended actions," the summary will follow that same format.

By editing the prompt, you control:

  • The sections included in the summary

  • The tone and style of language

  • Which types of insights are prioritised

Tips for effective prompts

  • Keep instructions clear and specific.

  • Use headings and structure to guide the AI's output.

  • Test your changes on a small set of feedback before rolling them out widely.

  • Avoid overly complex language—the AI works best with straightforward guidance.
