This guide will walk you through everything you need to know about managing review settings in Performance Leader. Whether you're setting up your first review or fine-tuning an existing one, we'll help you navigate the review dashboard, understand key settings, and get your review live with confidence. By the end of this article, you'll know how to activate reviews, manage contributor feedback, and make the most of powerful features like AI summaries.
Accessing the review management screen
Once you've created a review or chosen to edit an existing one, you'll land on the review management screen. This is your control centre for all review settings and configuration.
What you'll see:
At the top, you can toggle between Overview mode (for settings and configuration) and Review Enrollment mode (for adding and managing participants).
The dashboard is organised into three main sections: overall setup, checklist boxes (covering steps, contributor feedback, and reports), and a visual workflow of your review process.
Understanding the review dashboard
The dashboard provides a comprehensive view of your review's status and helps you track progress through setup.
Key sections:
Overall review setup and configuration: Displays high-level information about your review, including status, dates, and key settings.
Checklist boxes: Three helpful boxes showing progress on steps and forms, contributor feedback, and attached reports.
Visual workflow: A graphical representation of your review stages, making it easy to see where you are in the process.
These sections communicate with each other, so updates in one area are reflected across the dashboard. For example, if you add two steps to your review, you'll see this reflected in both the checklist and the visual workflow.
Activating your review
When you first create a review, it starts in draft mode. This allows you to set everything up without users being able to interact with it yet.
Steps to activate:
Look for the alert at the top of the screen indicating your review is in draft mode.
When you're ready to launch, click Activate.
The system will show you a workflow checklist of required setup steps (such as adding review pages).
Complete any outstanding requirements before the review can go live.
Important: You can't launch a review until all essential elements (like review pages) are configured.
Editing review settings
The settings button on the top right of the dashboard gives you access to all configuration options. To make changes to core review details:
Click Edit Settings in the top right corner.
Update the review title (the full name of your review).
Set a short title – this abbreviated version appears in PDFs and reports. It's useful to include a date here.
Add or modify the description to provide context about the review.
Click Save when you're done.
Managing review status
Your review can have three different status settings, each serving a specific purpose in the review lifecycle.
Status options:
Draft: Use this whilst setting up your review. You can add people to a draft review, but users can't interact with it yet.
Active: Set your review to active when you're ready to launch. This allows users to interact with the review and complete their steps.
Complete: Once your review process is finished, set the status to complete. This preserves all data whilst marking the review as concluded.
Important: When a review is finished, always set it to complete rather than deleting it. This maintains your historical records and data integrity. Only delete reviews that were used for testing or experimentation.
Review settings reference
Setting | Options | What it does | When to use it |
Lock status | Locked / Unlocked | Controls whether the review can be edited after creation | Lock when you want to prevent changes; keep unlocked if you need flexibility to make adjustments as you go. Super admins can unlock if needed. |
Dashboard visibility | Visible / Hidden | Determines whether the review appears on users' dashboards | Hide when you want the review to function normally (contributor feedback, steps, etc.) but don't want it listed on dashboards. |
Contributor feedback | Enabled / Disabled | Determines whether the review includes 360-degree or multi-source feedback | Enable to collect feedback from multiple sources; disable for self-assessment or manager-only reviews. |
Feedback contributors | Configurable roles/individuals | Controls which roles or individuals can provide feedback for each participant | Configure based on your feedback model (peers, managers, direct reports, etc.). |
Deleting reviews (use with caution)
Whilst you can permanently delete a review, this option should be used sparingly.
When to delete:
Test reviews you created whilst learning the system
Draft reviews that are no longer needed
Experimental reviews that won't be used
When NOT to delete:
Completed reviews with real data
Any review that was live with actual participants
Best practice: Instead of deleting completed reviews, set their status to Complete. This preserves your data and maintains a historical record of all reviews conducted.
