This guide walks you through the straightforward process of uploading financial information in bulk using Performance Leader's Data Utilities. Whether you're updating quarterly figures, annual targets, or any other financial metrics, you'll find the step-by-step instructions below easy to follow.

Getting started with Data Utilities

Data Utilities is your central hub for bulk imports, making it simple to update financial information across multiple user accounts in one go.

  1. Open Utilities → Data Utilities from your admin menu

  2. Find the Financial data import card

  3. Click Launch importer to open the Financial Data Importer

Preparing your import file

Getting your data file ready is the most important part of the process. Taking time here will make the import smooth and error-free.

Download the sample template

  1. Click Download Sample Template in the Import Wizard

  2. The system will generate a template based on your current financial data table configuration

  3. Review the rows and columns to understand the structure (these reflect what you've set up in the Attributes section)

Populate your data

  1. Replace the dummy user IDs in the template with your actual employee IDs

  2. Fill in your financial values in the appropriate cells

  3. It's perfectly fine to leave some cells blank if you don't have data for those fields

  4. Double-check that employee IDs are correct – the system will flag any that don't match existing users

Save in the correct format

  1. Save your completed file as a CSV (comma-separated values) format

  2. Excel will display a warning about this format – that's expected, just confirm you want to save as CSV

  4. Click Next when you're satisfied

Step 2: Mapping your data

The Import Wizard will guide you through validating and mapping your data to the correct fields.

  1. The system needs to know which columns in your file correspond to which fields in Performance Leader

  2. You can map each column manually from the dropdown lists

  3. Or click Auto-Map – if you've used the downloaded template, this matches every column automatically (you'll see "9 / 9 fields mapped")

  4. Confirm Match existing employees by is set to Employee ID (the default; you can switch to Email)

  5. Click Next to proceed

Step 3: Edit & validate

The Import Wizard will check your data and highlight any issues before you commit to the import. You can fix problems directly in the wizard or cancel and update your source file.

  1. Review the list of records to be imported

  2. Any errors will be flagged in red (such as invalid employee IDs)

  3. Click Show only errors to filter the list if you have multiple issues

  4. You can edit values directly in the wizard by clicking into the cells

  5. Alternatively, cancel the import, fix your CSV file, and start again

  6. Once all errors are resolved, click Next

No data is actually imported until the final step, so you can safely explore and make corrections without affecting your live data.

Step 4: Completing the import

You're nearly there! The final step is to review the summary and confirm the import.

  1. Review the summary — Total Rows, Valid Rows, and Rows with Errors

  2. Check the counts look right before committing

  3. When you're happy, click Import Data to complete the process

  4. The system will process your data and display a confirmation

  5. Click View existing data to see your newly imported financial information

The system maintains a log of all your imports, so you can always refer back to previous uploads if needed.

Once imported, the financial data will be visible to:

  • Administrators – who can view and edit it via Data Utilities → Financial data import → View existing data

  • Line managers – who can view data for their direct reports

  • Individual users – who can view their own data by clicking their avatar and selecting 'View financial info'

This data can also be pulled into reviews and included in review reports, making it a powerful tool for performance conversations.
