Manage objective alignment access and visibility

Control which users can see specific alignment areas based on their roles, ensuring relevant goal-setting options for different positions in your firm.

Managing objective alignment visibility is essential for ensuring that users in your firm only see alignment options that are relevant to their roles. This guide will walk you through how to configure these settings in Performance Leader, from reviewing current visibility to adding new alignment areas for specific positions.

Understanding objective alignment visibility

Performance Leader provides granular controls that allow you to determine which objective alignments are visible to different users. This means a Senior Associate might see different alignment options compared to a Partner, ensuring everyone has access to goal-setting areas that make sense for their position.

Accessing the alignment management tools

Before you can manage alignment visibility, you'll need to navigate to the right place in your Super Admin panel.

  1. Go to Manage Apps → Objectives

  2. Switch to the Configuration & tools view

  3. Scroll down to the Strategic priorities section (the UI now labels alignment areas as "Strategic priorities")

Reviewing current visibility settings

It's helpful to check which alignments are currently visible to different user groups before making changes.

  1. In the Strategic priorities section, click Preview access rules (also shown as Preview access)

  2. Scroll through the list to see which alignments are visible to each user by position, department or location

Manage alignment visibility and sharing

Each alignment (Strategic priority) has its own visibility and sharing settings. As the in-app banner explains: "Access rules control which employees can align their objectives to each priority, while visibility and sharing settings control how aligned objectives can be seen or shared." For any priority you can set:

  • Visibility — Public, Participants only, or Private

  • Sharing — Yes or No

To change how a priority's aligned objectives are seen or shared, follow these steps.

  1. In the Strategic priorities section, click Edit on the alignment (priority) you want to modify

  2. In the Details tab, set Visibility to Public, Participants only, or Private

  3. Set Sharing to Yes or No to control whether aligned objectives can be shared

  4. Click Save to confirm your changes

Verifying your changes

After making visibility changes, it's important to confirm they've been applied correctly.

  1. Return to the Preview access rules (Preview access) option

  2. Scroll to the position you just updated

  3. Confirm that the new alignment now appears in their list

  4. If you'd like to test from a user's perspective, refresh the front end and create a new objective to see the updated alignment options
