Archive or delete objective alignments

This guide covers managing alignments, understanding deletion restrictions, and archiving unused alignments for administrators.

Managing objective alignments is an important part of keeping your Performance Leader system organised and relevant. This guide will walk you through the process of deleting or archiving objective alignments that are no longer needed. You'll learn when you can permanently delete an alignment, how to handle alignments that are already in use, and how to archive alignments to keep your system tidy without losing historical data.

Accessing objective alignments

Before you can manage your objective alignments, you'll need to navigate to the right section of Performance Leader where all alignments are managed.

  1. Navigate to Manage Apps → Objectives

  2. Click into Configuration & tools

  3. Scroll down to the Strategic priorities section to view the list of all alignments

  4. Next to each alignment row you'll see a per-row Edit option and a Preview access rules option, plus a drag handle to reorder. Use the Active/Inactive filter to switch between active and inactive priorities (archiving and deletion are handled inside the Edit dialog)

Deleting an unused alignment

If an objective alignment hasn't been used yet, you can permanently remove it from your system. This is the most straightforward scenario.

  1. Locate the alignment you want to remove in your alignments list

  2. Click the Delete option next to that alignment

  3. The system will ask you to confirm the deletion

  4. Click Delete again to permanently remove the alignment

Important: You can only delete alignments that have not yet been used to create objectives.

Understanding deletion restrictions

Performance Leader protects your data by preventing the deletion of alignments that are actively being used. This ensures you don't accidentally remove alignments that employees have created objectives against.

  1. If you attempt to delete an alignment that's in use, the system will not allow the deletion

  2. You'll receive a message indicating how many objectives are currently using that alignment

  3. The system will prompt you to review the objectives listed against that alignment before proceeding. The easiest way to do this is via an Objective export.

Archiving an alignment

When an alignment is no longer relevant but has been used to create objectives, archiving is the best approach. This removes the alignment from active use whilst preserving historical data.

  1. Locate the alignment you want to archive in your alignments list

  2. Click the per-row Edit option next to that alignment to open the Edit strategic priority dialog

  3. On the Details tab, find the Enabled toggle

  4. Turn off the Enabled toggle to deactivate the alignment (it can no longer be selected for new aligned objectives, but its reporting remains available)

  5. Save your changes

  6. The alignment will now become inactive; use the Inactive filter in the Strategic priorities section to view deactivated priorities

Note: Archiving an alignment means it will no longer appear as an option when employees create new objectives, but existing objectives using that alignment will remain intact.

Re-enabling an archived alignment

If you've archived an alignment but later decide you need it again, you can easily bring it back into active use.

  1. Use the Inactive filter in the Strategic priorities section

  2. Find the alignment you want to re-enable

  3. Click into the Edit option for that alignment

  4. Open the alignment's Edit dialog and turn on the Enabled toggle to re-enable it

  5. Save your changes

  6. The alignment will move back to the active alignments section and be available for use
