Every firm has its own language and terminology, and Performance Leader gives you the flexibility to make the platform feel like it truly belongs to your organisation. In this guide, you'll learn how to update system language at both the module level and across key system settings, ensuring that the words your people see reflect the way you work.
Changing module names and language
Each activated module in Performance Leader can be renamed and customised to match your firm's terminology. This is particularly useful if you refer to objectives as "goals", or reviews as "appraisals" or "conversations".
To update a module name and language:
As a Super Admin, navigate to the General section in the Admin menu
You'll see a list of all activated modules
Click into the module you want to customise (e.g., Objectives or Reviews)
Click the pencil icon next to the module name to rename it
You'll also see a list of language items within that module that you can customise
Update any terms to match your firm's language (e.g., change "Contributor" to "Team Member" or "Supervisor" to "Line Manager")
Save your changes
These changes will be reflected wherever the module is mentioned and in all user-facing instructions and details within that module.
Updating system-wide labels
Beyond individual modules, you can also customise key system-wide labels that appear across the platform. This ensures consistency in terminology throughout the user experience.
To update system settings language:
As a Super Admin, scroll down the left sidebar and select System Settings
Scroll down to the language customisation options
You'll see options to change:
Dashboard label
Key document label
Direct reports label
Update each label as needed to reflect your firm's terminology
Save your changes
These updates will apply globally across the platform, ensuring that your people see familiar, firm-specific language wherever they interact with Performance Leader.
Best practices
Use language that people use. It should seem familiar and comfortable, not jarring and cold.
Involve key stakeholders (HR, practice leads, and partners) when deciding on terminology changes to ensure consistency with existing firm language
Keep labels concise and clear – avoid overly long names that may not display well in the interface
Document your customisations so that future administrators understand which terms have been changed and why
