Create, update or delete core attributes (roles, departments, location)

add, edit, and manage system attributes in Performance Leader, including departments, roles, and locations. Configure custom attributes and use filters to control data visibility.

Managing attributes in Performance Leader is straightforward and essential for tailoring the platform to your firm's structure. This guide walks you through creating attributes, configuring departments and roles, setting up location and team structures, and managing attribute visibility.

Note: If you have an integration between Performance Leader and your HRIS, these attributes will be automatically created and managed.

Accessing the attributes section

To manage your system attributes, you'll need Super Admin access.

  1. Navigate to Settings in the main menu

  2. Click on Attributes

  3. You'll see a list of all available system attributes, with core attributes (Department, Role, and Location) listed at the top

Users in Performance Leader require at least one of these core attribute sets to be assigned.

Creating a new attribute

Adding custom attributes allows you to categorise users in ways that reflect your firm's structure.

  1. Type the attribute name in the field box above the attribute list

  2. Click Add

  3. The attribute will now appear in the list and become available for assignment

Editing an existing attribute

You can modify attribute names and control their visibility across the platform.

  1. Click the pencil icon next to the attribute you want to edit

  2. Change the attribute name as needed

  3. Enable or disable the attribute using the toggle

  4. Click Save to confirm your changes

Adding filters to attributes

Filters give you greater control over how data is displayed within reviews and reports.

  1. From the attribute editing screen, click Add filter

  2. Configure the filter parameters according to your needs

  3. Filters can then be used to selectively show data within reviews (e.g. show a financial table only to those who have the filter "fee-earner").

Deleting an attribute

You can remove attributes that are no longer needed, but only if they're not currently in use.

  1. Check the number displayed next to the attribute—this shows how many users are assigned to it

  2. If users are assigned to that attribute, it cannot be deleted until those assignments are removed

  3. For empty attributes (with zero users assigned), click the delete icon to remove it

Best practices

When managing attributes, consider these tips:

  • Plan your structure: Map out your firm's departments, roles, and locations before creating attributes

  • Use consistent naming: Establish clear naming conventions for attributes to maintain consistency

  • Communicate changes: Let your team know when attribute structures change, especially if it affects reporting or reviews
