Create and initiate a check-in

Learn how to create, schedule, and complete check-ins in Performance Leader. Set up one-off or recurring conversations, customise templates, track actions, and mark check-ins as complete.

Check-ins are a powerful way to maintain regular, structured conversations throughout the year. Whether you're scheduling a one-off catch-up or setting up recurring development conversations, check-ins help you capture reflections, track actions, and maintain momentum between formal reviews.

Accessing the check-ins module

The check-ins module is your hub for ongoing conversations with colleagues. Here's where you'll see all your existing check-ins and create new ones.

  1. Click into the check-ins module from your navigation menu on the left.

  2. You'll see your existing check-ins listed, along with quick options to create check-ins with people you have direct relationships with.

Creating a new check-in

Setting up a check-in is straightforward. You can include one or more participants and choose a structure that suits your conversation.

  1. Click the plus new check-in button on the top right to open the creation dialogue.

  2. Select one or more participants to include in this check-in.

  3. Choose a template that provides the right structure for your conversation. Click the expand button to view more information about each template to ensure you're selecting the most relevant one.

  4. Decide whether to make this a recurring check-in (choose monthly, quarterly, or a different interval) or a one-off check-in.

  5. Choose a start date for when the check-in is scheduled to happen.

  6. Provide a name for the check-in.

  7. Click save.

The check-in will now appear on your dashboard.

Starting and customising a check-in

Before participants begin contributing, you have the opportunity to tailor the check-in questions to make them more relevant.

  1. Click start on the check-in from your dashboard.

  2. Review the questions and customise them as needed. You can turn off questions that aren't relevant or add new topics.

  3. Click start to initiate the check-in.

All participants will be notified that the check-in has been initiated.

Contributing to a check-in

Once a check-in is live, all participants can enter the form and provide their input. You'll also have access to relevant resources to support your reflections.

  1. Open the check-in from your dashboard.

  2. Enter reflections or actions depending on the check-in template and type.

  3. Use the resources windows if available to bring through relevant information from participants in the check-in, such as objectives or feedback.

Completing a check-in

When everyone has had the opportunity to contribute and the conversation is complete, you can formally close the check-in.

  1. Click mark check-in as completed to close the check-in.

  2. The system will ask you to select questions that are relevant to close.

  3. Click complete.

The completed check-in will now be visible on your dashboard, and you can refer back to it at any time.
