Setting up and configuring Check-ins

This comprehensive guide covers module settings, customisation options, email notifications, and empty states to help you get started with check-ins.

This article will walk you through everything you need to know to get your check-ins module ready for use. We'll cover how to access and configure module settings, customise the module name and language, manage email notifications, and set up empty states and page alerts.

Accessing the check-ins module settings

Before you can start using check-ins, you'll need to access the module configuration area. This is where you'll control all the key settings for how check-ins work in your organisation.

  1. Navigate to the General Settings area under your Super Admin menu

  2. Locate the check-ins module in the list of available modules

  3. To change the module's position in your navigation menu, simply drag and drop it to your preferred location

  4. Click on the Configure option to access the full module settings

Enabling and customising the module

Once you're in the configuration area, you can control whether the module is active and customise how it appears throughout your system.

  1. Use the toggle to enable or disable the check-ins module

  2. Change the module name to something that fits your organisation's language (e.g., "one-on-ones", "catch-ups", "conversations")

  3. Review the language settings to ensure all references to the module use your preferred terminology

  4. Update any additional language fields where the module name appears throughout the platform

Configuring email notifications

Check-ins trigger several automated emails to keep participants informed and engaged. You can customise these emails to match your organisation's tone and requirements.

  1. Scroll to the email settings section in the configuration area

  2. Review the list of emails that are sent during the check-in process (e.g., invitations, check-in begun notifications)

  3. Click Configure next to each email type to review or modify it

  4. Update the email subject line and email body as needed

  5. Save your changes before moving on to the next email

Setting up empty states

Empty states are what users see when they first access the check-ins module or when they don't have any relevant content to display. These are important for providing guidance and encouraging engagement.

  1. Navigate to the empty state configuration section

  2. Click Edit to review the default empty state message

  3. Update the language to provide helpful guidance for users (e.g., explaining how to create their first check-in)

  4. Save your changes to apply the new empty state

Configuring page alerts

Page alerts are notifications that appear at the top of the check-ins module. They're useful for highlighting important information such as deadlines, campaigns, or system updates.

  1. Locate the page alerts section in the configuration area

  2. Create or edit a page alert to communicate key information to users

  3. Add your alert message, ensuring it's clear and actionable

  4. Save the alert to make it visible to users accessing the check-ins module

Final review

Before rolling out check-ins to your organisation, take a moment to review all your configuration choices. Ensure that:

  • The module name and language reflect your organisation's terminology

  • Email notifications are configured with appropriate messaging

  • Empty states provide helpful guidance for new users

  • Any page alerts contain current, relevant information

Once you're satisfied with your configuration, your check-ins module is ready to use. You can return to these settings at any time to make adjustments as your needs evolve.
