Create an import attribute or group to hold external data

This guide will walk you through creating import attributes and field groups to bring external data into Performance Leader reviews.

Import attributes are custom data fields that allow you to bring information from external sources—such as your HRIS, financial systems, or other databases—into Performance Leader reviews. Field groups help you organise these attributes logically, making it easier to manage multiple data inputs and keep your system tidy.

Before you can create import attributes, you'll need to access the right area of the platform. This functionality is only available to super admins.

  1. Log in to Performance Leader as a super admin

  2. Go to Settings → Attributes from the admin menu

  3. Select Import Field Group from the category list to view existing field groups and attributes

Creating a new field group

Field groups allow you to organise related data inputs together. For example, you might create separate groups for 'Moderation meeting data', 'Financial metrics', or 'Client feedback scores'.

  1. With Add Import Field Group selected in the mode dropdown, type the name of your new field group in the box

  2. Click Add to create the group

  3. Your new field group will now appear in the list and be available for adding attributes

Adding a new attribute to a field group

Once you've created a field group (or if you want to add to an existing one), you can create individual attributes that will hold specific data points.

  1. Switch the mode dropdown to Add Import Row

  2. Choose the field group to add the attribute to

  3. Type the attribute name (e.g., 'Rating outcome', 'Client satisfaction score', 'Utilisation rate')

  4. Choose the data type — Text, Number, Currency, Ordinal, Date, Select List, Yes/No, or Percentage

  5. Click 'Add' to create the attribute

  6. The new attribute is now available for data uploads and can be included in performance reviews

Using your import attributes

After creating your attributes and field groups, you'll be able to upload data against them and bring this information into reviews. The data you import will be available when building review templates and can be displayed to users during their review process, providing valuable context for performance discussions.

For guidance on actually importing data once your attributes are set up, please refer to the separate guides on importing employee data, financial data, and review data.
