Show imported data into a review form

This step-by-step guide shows admins how to configure imported data fields in the review builder.

Bringing external data into your review forms is a powerful way to enrich the review process with information from other systems. This guide walks you through the complete process, from understanding how imported data appears in review forms to configuring it in the review builder.

Understanding imported data in review forms

Imported data allows you to pull information from external sources directly into your review forms. This data is connected to individual users, so each person sees the information relevant to them. Common examples include performance ratings, financial data, or metrics from other systems.

Before you can display imported data in a review form, you'll need to:

  • Create the data attribute identifier in your system

  • Upload the actual data for your users

  • Configure the input field in the review builder

Once configured, imported data appears as a standard field within your review form. Users can view this information alongside other review inputs, providing helpful context for their assessments.

  1. Navigate to the review form as a user would see it

  2. Locate the section containing the imported data field

  3. The data will display automatically if it has been uploaded for that user

Add an imported data field to a review

Adding imported data to your review forms happens through the review builder in the backend. Here's how to set it up:

  1. Open the review, then go to its Configure Steps & Forms tab (the Review Builder)

  2. Open the Elements panel and expand Output Fields

  3. Choose Imported Field and drag it into the right place on the form

Configure imported data settings

Once you've added an Imported Field, click it to open the settings panel on the right and configure it:

  1. Update the description to explain what data will appear in this field

  2. Add a tooltip if additional context would be helpful for users (optional)

  3. Set any input restrictions as needed (optional)

  4. Select the identifier for this imported data field—this must match the data attribute you created beforehand

  5. Verify that the output type reflects your selection (for example, "Rating outcome")

The identifier is crucial—it connects the field in your review form to the specific data you've imported into the system.

Verify imported data appears correctly

After configuring your imported data field, it's important to check that it displays as expected:

  1. Save your changes in the review builder

  2. Navigate to the review form (you may need to refresh the page)

  3. Expand the relevant section to see your new field

  4. Upload data against a test user if you haven't already

  5. View the review form as that user to confirm the data appears

Remember that imported data is connected to individual users, so each person will only see their own data in the review form.
