How the workspace is organised

A tour of the PI workspace — the top-level tabs, the sidebar, the cycle picker, and the filters that wrap every view.

The workspace opens as a full-screen view when you click Open Workspace from Admin > Performance Intelligence.

The header

Across the top you'll see:

  • Top-level module tabs — Reviews, Compare Reviews, Employee Trajectory, Objectives, Fast Feedback

  • Close workspace button (top right) — returns you to the PI landing page

Clicking a tab swaps the entire view.

The sidebar

The left sidebar carries two things:

Views and Lenses

The sidebar's navigation list changes depending on which top-level tab you're in. Every module's first view is an Introduction page — a primer on what Compass produces for that module — and each module opens on it when you switch tabs:

  • Reviews has a Views section (Introduction, Overview, Talent Grid, Managers, Benchmark) and a Lenses section (People, Calibration, Development, Collaboration, Culture, Collab Points, Risk). Views are the headline analyses; lenses are deeper drill-downs into specific signals.

  • Compare Reviews has views: Introduction, Overview, Movement, Development, Managers.

  • Employee Trajectory has views: Introduction, Overview, People, Development, Risk, Succession.

  • Objectives has views: Introduction, Quality & SMART, Alignment.

  • Fast Feedback has views: Introduction, Sentiment, Quality, Research.

The active view is highlighted; click any view to load it.

Filters and scope controls

Below the navigation, the sidebar shows the filters that apply to the current view. Every view shares a few common filters; some views add their own.

The cycle picker

For Reviews you pick a single review cycle from a dropdown. The list is grouped by folder and labelled with the review title and the count of completed reviews. Both in-progress and completed cycles are listed, as long as at least one review in the cycle has been completed — so you can watch a live cycle mid-flight. Empty cycles are excluded, and a default cycle is pre-selected when the workspace opens.

For Compare Reviews you pick 2+ cycles to compare against each other. You'll see "Add cycle" / "Remove" controls on the side.

Other tabs (Employee Trajectory, Objectives, Fast Feedback) don't use a cycle picker — Employee Trajectory synthesises across all cycles, and Objectives / Fast Feedback use a date range instead.

The date range

On Objectives and Fast Feedback, the sidebar shows a date range selector with six options:

  • 30 days

  • 60 days

  • 3 months (default)

  • 6 months

  • 12 months

  • 2 years

The date range scopes the activity-based metrics on these tabs (new / completed / comments / NSI trend, etc.) to that window. Snapshots like "currently open objectives" or "pending requests" ignore the date range because they're current-state, not period metrics.

Attribute filters

On most tabs the sidebar offers three attribute filters: Department, Role (job profile), and Location. These are dropdowns of "All" by default; pick one to scope the view to that segment.

If you're a restricted admin, your view is automatically scoped — you'll only see the segments you have access to.

View-specific filters

Some views add their own filters or settings to the sidebar:

  • Talent Grid (Reviews) — choose the X and Y axes from a list of AI extraction fields or custom rating dimensions.

  • Managers (Reviews) — pick a rating dimension to break down by.

  • Calibration (Reviews) — pick which rating dimension to calibrate.

  • Benchmark (Reviews) — set X axis, Y axis, colour-by, and overlay toggles (trend line, quadrants, averages, labels).

  • People (Employee Trajectory) — checkbox filters for trajectory, archetype, and readiness.

The main content area

The rest of the screen is the view itself — a grid of cards, charts, and tables specific to whatever page you've opened. Many cards support full-screen expansion. Most charts and tables have hover tooltips with detail.

Loading and empty states

When you switch tabs or change a filter, a spinner overlay appears while the new view fetches.

If you're on a Reviews view that needs a cycle and none is selected, you'll see an empty state prompting you to pick a cycle from the sidebar. Introduction pages load regardless of cycle selection.

If the AI hasn't yet processed enough data to show a view — e.g., an Objectives Quality page when no quality analysis has been run — you'll see a notice card explaining what's needed.

Tips

  • Filters carry across tabs. A department filter you set on Reviews stays on when you flip to Objectives, until you clear it.

  • Refresh isn't a thing. PI doesn't have a manual refresh button for most pages — analysis updates automatically as background jobs complete. The queue status banner (next article) tells you what's still cooking.

  • The cycle picker is the most important control on the Reviews tab. If anything looks empty or off on Reviews, check which cycle is selected first.
