What can you change after card activation?

Understand which settings are locked after activation and which can still be edited.

Overview

After activating a card, some core settings are permanently locked to protect the integrity of your loyalty program for existing cardholders. However, you can still change anything that's not a core setting — and those edits apply immediately to all existing customers once saved. Customers will see the changes when their card refreshes (sending a push notification helps apply updates across all cards faster).

What you can still change

After activation, you can freely edit:

  • Card design — Card colour, stamp images, background images, logo, icon, and central image

  • Reward or discount descriptions — Prize name, discount amount, reward details

  • Card information text — Card description, company name, "how to earn a stamp" text

  • Active links — Website, phone, email, and address links on the back of the card

  • Feedback links — Review platform links

  • Terms of use — Terms text and link to full terms and conditions

  • Issuer information — Company name, email, and contact number

  • Referral program — Active/inactive toggle and reward amounts

  • Push notifications and automations — Messages, timing, and triggers

  • Geo-push messages — Notification text for locations

  • Reward levels on Reward cards — Add, change, or remove reward tiers at any time

  • Reward program type on Reward cards — Switch between Spend, Visit, and Points

Note: All edits apply immediately to existing customers once saved. Customers see the update when their card refreshes — sending a push notification speeds this up.

FAQs

If I change the reward description, does it update for existing customers?

Yes. Changes to reward descriptions, discount amounts, and other editable settings apply to all existing cardholders once saved. Customers see the update when their card refreshes.

How do I force cards to refresh?

Send a push notification to your cardholders. This triggers a card refresh and applies any design or content updates you've made.

I need to change a locked setting — what can I do?

Locked settings cannot be changed on an active card. You would need to create a new card with the correct settings, then migrate your customers to the new card. Contact support@perkstar.co.uk if you need help with this process.

Can I add new fields to the card issuing form after activation?

No. The card issuing form fields are locked after activation. You cannot add, remove, or modify the fields customers fill in when installing the card.

Why are some settings locked?

Core settings like card type, expiration rules, and tier structures are locked to maintain consistency for customers who have already installed the card. Changing these settings mid-program could cause confusion or data mismatches for existing cardholders.
