For Enterprise Pro users, Internal Knowledge Search integrates your organization’s internal files with Perplexity’s search capabilities, enhancing collaboration and productivity within your team.

Why use Internal Knowledge Search?

  • Comprehensive research: Combine insights from the web with proprietary internal information for richer, more specific answers.

  • Enhanced collaboration: Empower your team to ask questions and get answers based on both web sources and your organization’s internal documents, enabling informed decision-making without the need to manually access or share files.

  • Increased productivity: Save time by searching across all relevant organization documents instantly.

How does Internal Knowledge Search work for Enterprise Pro users?

Enterprise Pro users can leverage Internal Knowledge Search in two main ways:

  1. Using your organization’s file repository

    • Administrators upload files: Your organization’s administrators upload files to a central repository, which Perplexity can use as sources when answering questions from anyone on your team.

    • How to use files as sources: In Perplexity’s search bar, look for Web + Org Files. When both are selected, Perplexity will use your organization’s files and sources from the web to synthesize answers.

      • Deselect Web if you want Perplexity to only use your files as sources.

      • Deselect Org Files if you want Perplexity to only use web sources.

      • Deselect both if you want Perplexity to respond without external sources.

    • Receiving comprehensive answers: Perplexity determines which internal files are relevant and uses the most pertinent sections within those files to form its responses.

    • File citations: Insights derived from your internal files will include in-line citations, so you know exactly where the information is coming from. You can download and open files directly from the citation references to explore the content further.

  2. Creating and using Perplexity Spaces

    • Creating a Space: Enterprise Pro users can create Perplexity Spaces to organize their Threads and collaborate with team members. With Spaces, you can create custom versions of Perplexity tailored to specific projects or topics.

    • Uploading files to the Space: Files uploaded to a Space will be used as sources for search Threads within that Space, giving you customized search results based on your internal documents.

      • Files uploaded to an individual user’s Spaces are not included in the overall organization’s file repository.

    • Inviting collaborators: For security purposes, only users within your organization can be invited to join a Space. Colleagues you invite to collaborate in a Space will be able to start new Threads or continue existing ones, utilizing the files and resources uploaded to that Space.

    • Personalized search experience: Spaces offer additional customization options:

      • Upload specific internal knowledge sets: Choose which files or datasets are used as sources in your Spaces.

      • Select from advanced AI models: Choose which AI model will craft responses to your questions, including GPT-4 Omni and Claude 3.5 Sonnet.

      • Set custom instructions: Provide specific guidelines or a persona for how Perplexity should construct its answers.

File Upload vs. Internal Knowledge Search

  • File upload:

    • You can attach up to five files per thread directly in the search bar.

    • Files are used temporarily within that thread and are deleted after seven days.

    • Ideal for one-time queries with specific files as input.

  • Internal Knowledge Search for Enterprise:

    • Organization files: Enterprise administrators can upload up to 500 files to the organization’s repository, accessible to all users within your organization.

    • Perplexity Spaces: Individual Enterprise Pro users can upload their own files to a Space for use in search Threads within that Space.

    • Files remain accessible to all users within your organization until manually removed or updated by an administrator.

    • Enables comprehensive search across your organization’s entire internal knowledge base.

How do I select sources for my search?

  • Click “Choose sources” in your search bar.

  • Choose from the following options:

    • Web: Perplexity will only use sources from the internet to generate answers

    • Org Files: Perplexity will only information contained in your organization’s file repository to generate answers

    • Web + Org Files: Perplexity will use both web sources and your organization’s file repository to generate answers

    • None: Deselect both Web and Org Files if you want Perplexity to respond without using external sources.

Why don’t I see Focus in Perplexity’s search bar?

For Enterprise Pro users, Focus has been replaced with Choose sources, allowing you to use Internal Knowledge Search by selecting between Web, Org Files, Web + Org Files, or None.

Who can access the uploaded files?

  • Organization files:

    • All Enterprise Pro users within your organization can download and search the files uploaded by your admin. Go to your settings page and click the “Files” tab to access your organization’s file repository.

  • Files in Spaces:

    • Only the creator of the Space and invited collaborators can access and use the files uploaded to that Space.

    • Learn more about Perplexity Spaces.

How are titles and summaries generated for my files?

If you notice any errors, please refer to the original file content for accurate information.
