What is Comet and how is it different from other browsers?

Comet is a Chromium-based browser that integrates advanced AI capabilities powered by Perplexity. Unlike traditional browsers, Comet combines web browsing with intelligent features that enhance productivity and information access.

How do I download and install Comet on Windows or Mac?

To download and install Comet on your Windows or Mac computer:

  1. Visit the official Comet website and locate the download button

  2. Select the appropriate version for your operating system (Windows or Mac)

  3. Once downloaded, locate the installation file in your Downloads folder

  4. For Mac: Drag the Comet icon to your Applications folder
    For Windows: Run the installer and follow the on-screen prompts

  5. After installation completes, Comet will launch automatically

  6. Follow any first-time setup instructions to configure your preferences

Note that Comet will automatically update when you relaunch the browser, or you can manually check for updates via Settings → About or using the update button in the top-right corner

Why is Comet asking me for keychain access?

Comet requests keychain access during installation to securely store sensitive information such as:

  • Website passwords and login credentials

  • Payment information for autofill functionality

  • Authentication tokens for connected services

  • Encrypted personal data used by Comet Intelligence features

This keychain access follows security best practices and ensures your sensitive data remains protected while allowing Comet to provide password management and autofill capabilities. The browser stores this information locally on your device with encryption

How do I make Comet my default browser?

Setting Comet as your default browser ensures all web links automatically open in Comet

On Mac:

  1. Open System Preferences/Settings

  2. Go to "Default Applications" or "General"

  3. Find "Web Browser" or "Default web browser"

  4. Select Comet from the dropdown menu

On Windows:

  1. Open Settings

  2. Navigate to "Apps" → "Default Apps"

  3. Scroll to "Web Browser"

  4. Click the current default browser and select Comet from the options

On Linux:

You can also set Comet as default when you first launch the browser by accepting the prompt that appears

How can I import my data from another browser?

importing your browsing data from another browser to Comet is straightforward:

  1. Open Comet

  2. Click the menu button (three dots) in the top-right corner

  3. Go to "Settings"

  4. Select "Import bookmarks and settings"

  5. Choose your previous browser from the dropdown menu

  6. Select which items to import (bookmarks, history, passwords, etc.)

  7. Click "Import" to complete the process

This transfers your essential browsing data to Comet, making the transition seamless while maintaining your personalized browsing setup
