How to become a PGA member

a brief description of how to start on the path to PGA membership

Written by James Walker

To begin the PGM program toward PGA membership you will first need to complete four prerequisites.

1) Take and pass or achieve a qualifying score on a Playing Ability Test. You can also submit proof of a handicap lower than 10 to PAT@pgahq.com in place of a qualifying score. To schedule a PAT please search for one here.

2) Take and pass the qualifying level material. You can register for that here after creating an account on PGA.org.

3) Submit a background check, which can be done here.

4) Be working full-time in the golf industry. eligible positions can be found here

After completing these four items, you will need to fill out and email your associate application to membershipapps@pgahq.com . You can find that application here. When your application is approved and processed you will then be considered a Class B PGA associate.

Once you become an associate you will have 9 years to finish our PGM education program. Once that is completed you will then be eligible to apply for and be elected as a full PGA Class A member
