Connecting Slack to Pilea

How to connect Slack to Pilea, collect feedback from team conversations, and set up weekly summaries.

Written by Simon Oliver

When you connect Slack to Pilea, your team can send feedback directly from Slack conversations using emoji reactions, message menus, or slash commands. Pilea also sends confirmation receipts and optional weekly summaries back to Slack.

What you'll need

  • Admin access in Pilea

  • Permission to install apps in your Slack workspace

How to connect Slack

Step 1: Install the Slack app

  1. In Pilea, go to Integrations in the sidebar under Data Sources.

  2. Find Slack in the available integrations grid and click Connect.

  3. You'll be redirected to Slack to authorize the Pilea app.

  4. Review the permissions and click Allow.

  5. You'll be redirected back to Pilea with a confirmation toast.

Step 2: Select a confirmation channel

Pilea needs a channel to send confirmation messages when feedback is successfully added. A channel like #feedback-confirmations works well.

  1. In Pilea, go to Integrations in the sidebar.

  2. Click the settings icon next to the Slack integration.

  3. Select a confirmation channel from the dropdown.

Step 3: Invite Pilea to channels

The Slack app only collects feedback from channels it's been invited to. Invite it to the channels where your team discusses product feedback.

  1. Go to the channel where you want to collect feedback (e.g., #feedback or #product-feedback).

  2. In the message composer, type @pileainsights.

💡 Tip: Create a dedicated #feedback channel and let your team know that anything tagged there goes directly into Pilea. This gives you a clean, focused feedback stream.

How to add feedback from Slack

Once the Slack app is installed and invited to a channel, your team can add feedback in three ways:

1. Plant emoji reaction

React to any message with the plant emoji. Pilea captures the message as feedback and sends a confirmation to the receipts channel.

This is the fastest method - no forms, no context switching.

2. Message menu

  1. Hover over any message and click the three dots (overflow menu).

  2. Select Add feedback to Pilea Insights.

  3. A modal opens where you can add product and customer context before submitting.

3. Slash command

Type /pilea-insights in any channel where the app is invited. This opens a modal where you can manually enter feedback with product and customer fields.

Weekly summaries in Slack

You can receive automated weekly summaries of insights and bug reports directly in a Slack channel.

  1. In Pilea, go to Settings > Weekly Summaries > Edit.

  2. Switch on Notify in Slack.

  3. Select the channel where you want summaries posted.

Troubleshooting

Pilea isn't capturing feedback from a channel
Make sure the Slack app has been invited to that channel. Type @pileainsights in the channel. The app can only see messages in channels it's been explicitly invited to.

No confirmation messages appearing
Check that you've selected a confirmation channel in the Slack integration settings. Go to Integrations, click the settings icon next to Slack, and verify a channel is selected.

Plant emoji reaction isn't working
The app must be invited to the channel where you're reacting. Also verify the Slack app is still connected - check the Integrations page for a green "Connected" status.

Slash command not found
If /pilea-insights returns "command not found," the Slack app may not be installed correctly. Disconnect and reconnect the integration from the Integrations page in Pilea.

If none of these solve the issue, contact us via the chat bubble in the bottom right. Include your Slack workspace name and the channel where you're experiencing the problem.
