Why Does Pillow Need Access to the Microphone?
Updated over a week ago

If your preset allows it, Pillow uses your device's microphone to record sleep sounds and monitor the ambient sound levels to assess sleep quality. If you are using Pillow solely with an iPhone, by restricting access to the microphone, the sound recording functionality will no longer be possible.

We also ask for microphone permission to ensure that Pillow will continue to run in the background in order for the alarm to go off as expected and for the smart wake-up feature to function optimally. For this functionality, no audio is stored.

For privacy reasons, all your sleep data and sound recordings are stored only on your device(s). If you have enabled iCloud synchronization for Pillow, the data are also uploaded to your private encrypted storage container that is only accessible by you. We don't have any servers storing any user data and we don't send any user data to any third-party service.
