What are the minimum requirements for Pillow on the Apple Watch?

Currently, Pillow on the Apple Watch can be installed on any device that can run watchOS 6 or newer.

Can I track my sleep automatically without Pillow on the Apple Watch?

Yes, you can!

Certain aspects of sleep tracking and detection will function better if Pillow is installed on the Apple Watch, therefore, it is strongly recommended to install Pillow on the Apple Watch. However, Pillow can still detect sleep without having Pillow installed on the Apple Watch.

To track sleep automatically, simply wear your Apple Watch during sleep and Pillow will produce a detailed sleep analysis that includes:

  • Detailed sleep stage analysis

  • Heart rate analysis

  • Blood oxygen levels during sleep (on supported devices)

  • Environmental audio levels (on supported devices)

  • Respiratory rate levels during sleep (on supported devices)

  • Wrist temperature tracking (on supported devices)

Can I track my sleep manually without Pillow on the Apple Watch?

Yes! In this case you have to place your iPhone or iPad on the mattress facedown near (but not under) your pillow. Click here for detailed instructions. When you track your sleep manually using the iPhone you can benefit from the following features:

  • Smart wake-up alarm on the iPhone/iPad

  • Detailed sleep stage analysis

  • If you also wear your Apple Watch during sleep, Pillow can provide: heart rate analysis, blood oxygen levels, environmental audio levels (on supported devices), wrist temperature (on supported devices) and respiratory rate (on supported devices)

  • Audio recordings

  • Sleep aid

What if I start a sleep session that uses only the iPhone/iPad and place my device on the nightstand instead of the mattress?

In this case, Pillow will not be able to provide to provide sleep stage analysis but you can still benefit from the following features:

  • Smart wake-up alarm on the iPhone/iPad

  • Detailed sleep stage analysis (only if you wear Apple Watch during sleep)

  • If you also wear your Apple Watch during sleep, Pillow can provide: heart rate analysis, blood oxygen levels, environmental audio levels (on supported devices)

  • Audio recordings

  • Sleep aid

Are there any other limitations, if I can't install Pillow on my Apple Watch?

No! You can still benefit from the rest of Pillow's features such as personalized insights, sleep tips, trends, optimal bedtime notifications, sleep notes, mood reporting and many more.
