Pillow Says That My Sleep Session Ended Abruptly
Pillow Says That My Sleep Session Ended Abruptly
Updated over a year ago

Why does this message appear?

This dialog will appear if you or the system terminates Pillow on the iPhone or the iPad while Pillow is monitoring your sleep. This can happen for a number of reasons.

⚠️ Important

When the sleep session is terminated abruptly, the sleep tracking information for the entire session becomes irrecoverably lost.

What can I do to prevent this?

Keep your iPhone or iPad connected to the charger.

Pillow requires a significant amount of energy to record and analyze your sleep and audio (if enabled). If you don't keep your iPhone or iPad connected to the charger, your device may shut down due to low battery, or iOS may decide to terminate Pillow and other apps to save battery.

Do not lock your iPhone or iPad during the sleep session.

Generally, it is safe to lock your iPhone or iPad after you start a sleep session. However, in some cases, this can cause Pillow to be terminated by iOS, and there is nothing Pillow can do to prevent this if your device is locked.

Therefore, we strongly recommend leaving Pillow visible on the screen after a sleep session starts. After you start a sleep session, do not switch to another app; if you switch, make sure to come back to Pillow shortly after. If Pillow is visible on your screen throughout the sleep session, the device will not lock, and Pillow will be able to run uninterrupted to track your sleep.

Important tip

When you start a sleep session, place your device face down. When you place the device face down while running Pillow, the screen will turn off automatically so that you don't have to worry about any light emanating from your screen during sleep.

Do not switch to other apps after you start a sleep session.

When you start a sleep session, it is strongly recommended that you keep Pillow running in the foreground. (Do not press the home button and do not swipe from the bottom to return to the home screen or switch to another app.) If you need to temporarily switch to another app, it's OK but remember to return to Pillow for the remainder of the sleep session.

Do not run heavy applications after starting a sleep session.

If you start a sleep session and switch to a game or other apps that require a significant amount of resources, like apps that play video or audio, then iOS might force Pillow to close to save resources for the app that you want to use.
