How to Review a Flight
Open a flight record to replay the flight path, view real-time telemetry, review the timeline, and generate AI insights.
Overview
The Flight Detail view provides a 3D map replay of a flight with live telemetry data, a phase-by-phase timeline, and playback controls. Use this view to review individual flights in detail — instructors and students can debrief together using objective data instead of relying on memory.
The Flight Detail view is part of the FDM (Flight Data Monitoring) module. To reach it, open FDM, select Flights in the left sidebar, and open a flight from the Flight List.
Tip: You can set your own defaults for how this view opens — 2D or 3D map, aircraft marker style, and which pane the split view uses (2D, 3D, Chase, HUD, or Six Pack) — in My Preferences. See the setup notes there before your first debrief.
Opening a Flight
From the Flight List, click the chevron on any flight row to open the Flight Detail view. You can also access it directly from the Debrief button on FSP reservations or from the Pilotbase mobile app.
Flight Header
The collapsible header in the left sidebar displays key flight metadata:

Date/Time | Flight date and time range (e.g., "Wed, Apr 1, 2026 — 11:30 AM - 12:05 PM"). |
Reservation | FSP reservation number, linked to the reservation in Flight Schedule Pro. |
Aircraft | Tail number and aircraft type (e.g., "Cessna 172S-G1000/TAA"). |
Pilot | Pilot name, linked to the person record in FSP. |
Instructor | Instructor name, linked to the person record in FSP. |
Route | Airport identifier(s) for the flight route. Click an airport code to view weather details. |
Duration | Total flight duration. |
Brakes | Brake release to brake set times (e.g., "11:30 AM → 12:05 PM"). |
Data Source | Recording device ID, device type (e.g., "Levil"), and record count. |
Imported | Date the flight data was imported into the system. |
A Reprocess Flight button is available when viewing a flight, allowing you to re-run event detection on the flight data.
3D Map View
The center of the screen displays a 3D satellite map with the flight path rendered as a colored track. The map includes:
The full flight path with altitude visualization.
Waypoint markers (e.g., "Rotation" at the point of takeoff).
Aircraft position indicator that moves during playback.
Event markers — exceedance events are pinned on the timeline and map, so you can jump directly to moments that need attention.
Color by Phase
The Layers menu includes a Color by Phase toggle. Turn it on to color the flight track by flight phase (taxi, climb, cruise, descent, and so on), making it easy to identify phase transitions visually on the map.
ADS-B Traffic layer
The Layers menu also includes an ADS-B Traffic toggle. Turn it on to overlay nearby traffic broadcast on ADS-B at the time of the flight. Coverage depends on which aircraft were broadcasting on the network, and requires the aircraft to have a registration configured in Settings → Aircraft Registrations.
Segments panel
The Segments panel shows per-segment statistics for granular sub-phases of the flight. Examples include individual traffic-pattern legs (upwind, crosswind, downwind, base, final) and takeoff sub-phases (takeoff roll, rotation, climb). Select a segment to jump the map and timeline to that moment.
Airspeed Indicator
The 3D visualization includes an airspeed indicator with color-coded arcs that show the aircraft's speed ranges:
Green arc — Normal operating range
White arc — Flap operating range (Vs0 to Vfe)
Orange arc — Caution range (Vno to Vne, approaching limits)
Red line — Never-exceed speed (Vne)
These arcs are driven by V-speed values (Vne, Vno, Vs1, Vs0, Vfe) configured for each aircraft in Flight Schedule Pro. If V-speeds have not been entered for an aircraft, the airspeed indicator will not display speed range arcs.
Map Controls
A toolbar above the map provides controls for adjusting the view:

Recenter on aircraft | Re-center the map on the current aircraft position. |
Keyboard Shortcuts | View available keyboard shortcuts for map navigation. |
Toggle graphs | Show or hide data graphs below the map. |
Live Flight Data
The Live Flight Data panel (expandable in the left sidebar) shows real-time telemetry values at the current playback position:
Altitude — Current altitude in feet MSL.
Airspeed — Indicated airspeed in knots (IAS).
Vertical Speed — Rate of climb/descent in feet per minute.
Heading — Magnetic heading in degrees.
Ground Speed — Ground speed in knots.
These values update as you scrub through the flight timeline or during playback.
Maneuvers
The Maneuvers panel breaks the flight into phases. Scroll down in the left sidebar to view the full list.
The system automatically identifies flight phases — taxi, takeoff, climb, cruise, descent, approach, and landing — using the aircraft's V-speed data. Rotation speed (Vr) is used to detect takeoff, and stall speeds (Vs0, Vs1) help determine phase transitions.
Each phase entry shows:
Phase name — Taxi, Takeoff, or Flight, with a color indicator.
Duration — How long the phase lasted (e.g., "26m 25s").
Start time — Timestamp within the flight recording.
Altitude and speed — Values at the start of the phase.
Segments badge — Count of detected segments in that phase (e.g., "3 Segs").
Detected maneuvers include steep turns, turns around a point, S-turns, slow flight, power-off and power-on stalls, forward slips to landing, go-arounds, touch and goes, and more. Click a badge to expand the list and jump to a specific maneuver on the map.
Maneuver Filters
Use the filter buttons above the list to focus on specific maneuver types. These filter tabs are dynamic: they are generated from the maneuver types actually detected in the flight, and they only appear when more than one type is present. An All button (selected by default) shows every maneuver, and each additional button corresponds to one detected maneuver type (for example, Steep Turn or Slow Flight). Select a type to show only those maneuvers; select it again to return to All.
AI Insights
Click AI Insights (sparkle icon) in the Maneuvers panel header to generate an AI-powered narrative summary of the flight. This provides a plain-language overview of what happened during the flight. AI insights are available when your operator has AI Features enabled in Settings.
Weather Information
Click any airport code in the flight route to expand weather information for that airport at the time of the flight. The weather panel displays METAR-derived data including:
Flight category (VFR/MVFR/IFR/LIFR) with color indicator.
Wind direction, speed, and gusts.
Visibility.
Ceiling and cloud layers.
Temperature and dewpoint.
Altimeter setting.
Raw METAR text and observation timestamp.
Playback Controls
The playback toolbar at the bottom of the screen lets you replay the flight:

Back | Step backward by the current playback speed (for example, 4 seconds at 4x). |
Play/Pause | Start or pause playback. |
Forward | Step forward by the current playback speed (for example, 4 seconds at 4x). |
Speed selector | Choose playback speed: 0.25x, 0.5x, 1x, 2x, 4x, or 10x. |
Timeline scrubber | Drag the slider to jump to any point in the flight. |
The current flight time and phase are displayed alongside the scrubber (e.g., "00:00 Taxi 35:08").
Flag events for review
Exceedance events on a flight are pinned on the map and timeline. To act on an event — tag it, or control whether it is included in your operation's reports and flag analytics — open the Events page and select the event. See the "How to Monitor and Triage Events" article for the full event workflow.
