Safety Hub for Safety Managers
Safety Hub gives Safety Managers a single place to run the daily SMS cycle — triaging reports, managing hazards and corrective actions, and monitoring FDM flight events — with full visibility across every team in the operator. This article covers the Safety Manager's day-to-day workflow.
What Safety Managers can see and do
Safety Managers hold two advantages over other SMS users:
Visibility bypass. You see every Safety Report, Hazard, Corrective Action, and Document in the operator, regardless of which Safety Team the record is routed to. You don't need to be a member of each team.
Always assignable. Any record can be assigned to you directly, even if you're not on the team that owns it.
This bypass comes from being listed as a Safety Manager on the in-app Settings → Safety Team screen in Safety Hub (managing that screen requires the Manage Safety Hub Settings permission). If you're not seeing records from other teams, have someone with that permission confirm you're listed as a Safety Manager there.
Permission prerequisite: Your FSP role needs the Access Safety Hub permission at minimum. Full day-to-day management also requires Manage Safety Reports, Manage Hazards, Manage Corrective Actions, View Analytics, and (for configuration) Manage Safety Hub Settings. Your admin grants these in FSP under Settings → Users → Roles & Permissions.
Start your day on the Safety Dashboard
Open Safety Hub. The Safety Dashboard loads first and gives you an at-a-glance read on the operator's safety posture.
Key sections to check each morning:
Needs Attention — a callout row of clickable pills at the top: overdue reports, high-risk hazards, overdue actions, and overdue document reviews. Each pill links straight to the affected records.
KPI stat tiles — Total Reports, Open Reports, High Risk Hazards, Overdue/Due Today Actions, Overdue/Due Today Reports, Regulatory Pending (NTSB/FAA), Unassigned, Oldest Open, and Document Reviews. Tiles show trend deltas versus the prior period.
Flight Risk Assessments summary — Open / In Progress / Completed / Highest Risk counts. High-risk FRATs that need follow-up appear here.
Charts — an interactive set you can click to filter: Reports by Status (one segment per configured status), Severity Distribution, Report Trend over time, and Reports by Operational Area.
Time filter — switch the whole dashboard between Today, 7D, 30D, 90D, and 1Y.
Below the charts, list widgets surface Regulatory Pending Events, High Risk Hazards, and Document Reviews, each with a View All link, plus a Safety Overview panel (open hazards, open corrective actions, resolution rate).
Review and triage Safety Reports
Navigate to Safety Reports under Safety Management in the left sidebar. The page is titled Reports.
A row of stat tiles sits at the top — Open Reports, Overdue/Due Today, Assigned to Me, and Total Reports. The queue below shows all reports across the operator (your visibility bypass means you see every team's reports). Useful filters:
Status — narrow the queue. A report runs from Submitted to Closed (the terminal status). Status names are configurable per operator, so your list may differ.
Team — focus on one location's work.
Severity — surface Catastrophic or Hazardous reports first.
Area — filter by Operational Area (Operations, Maintenance, etc.).
The list adds a Last Modified column so you can spot the most recently touched records at a glance.
Open a report to see the full record:
Reporter Submitted Data (immutable) — what the reporter filed.
Safety Team fields — editable, Safety-Team-only fields your operator has configured. These are the private fields your operator set up; there's no fixed built-in list, so what appears here depends on your configuration.
Linked Hazards and Comments (Internal/External) — use internal comments to coordinate without exposing notes to reporters.
Audit History — a full timeline of every action on the record.
For a detailed walkthrough of status changes and assignments, see the "Manage Safety Reports" article.
Work the hazard register
Once a report is filed and the root cause is understood, create or review the associated hazard.
Navigate to Hazards under Safety Management. The page is titled Hazard Management.
Each hazard record contains:
Hazard Triangle — Source, Mechanism, and Target (FAA AC 120-92D compliant). This is the structural analysis of what went wrong.
5×5 Risk Matrix — Initial Risk and Residual Risk. The matrix uses your operator's configured Likelihood × Severity grid.
Linked Reports — reports that identified or referenced this hazard.
Corrective Actions — add or link actions directly from the hazard detail.
For step-by-step hazard management, see the "Manage Hazards" article.
Track corrective actions
Navigate to Corrective Actions under Safety Management.
As Safety Manager, you assign CAs, set due dates, and verify completion. A row of stat tiles shows Active, Overdue/Due Today, Awaiting Verification, and Completed. The register lists Report ID, Action, Linked Hazard, Operational Area, Team, Priority, Status, Assigned To, Due Date, and Last Modified.
Corrective action priority is one of Critical, High, Medium, or Low — use Critical for actions that must be worked ahead of everything else. A corrective action moves through these statuses by default: Open → In Progress → Completed → Verified → Closed.
The Verification section on each CA lets you record the planned verification method and an effectiveness rating once work is done.
For full CA management steps, see the "Manage Corrective Actions" article.
Use Analytics to identify patterns
Navigate to Analytics (expandable) under Safety Management. Three views are available if you hold the View Analytics permission:
Open Loop Items — audit-readiness tracker showing Incidents without a Hazard, Hazards without a Corrective Action, and Completed CAs without Verification. Drill into each gap to close it.
Performance Assessment — the SMS Performance Assessment report (14 CFR Part 5 §5.73): a period-over-period KPI summary, Risk Profile, CA Performance, and Top Operational Areas. Export as PDF for AE review.
Repeat Events — the Repeat Event Analysis view: recurring events grouped by Operational Area across 30D, 90D, or 1Y, with a count per group and the most-recent date.
Use Repeat Event Analysis to spot systemic issues that individual report triage may miss.
Troubleshooting
I can't see reports from other teams. Someone with the Manage Safety Hub Settings permission needs to designate you as a Safety Manager on the in-app Settings → Safety Team screen. The visibility bypass only applies to users listed there. Holding the Manage Safety Hub Settings permission yourself does not, on its own, grant cross-team visibility — you have to be listed as a Safety Manager.
A person doesn't appear in an assignee picker. The person must be flagged as a Safety Officer on their FSP user profile. Safety Hub refreshes the picker from FSP on every open. Ask your admin to set the flag in FSP, then try the picker again.
