Complete a Weight & Balance calculation
Weight & Balance (W&B) lets you record and review a weight-and-balance calculation tied to a specific reservation. The calculation is attached to the flight during the reservation's edit window — typically within about one hour of the event and when you are assigned to the reservation.
This article is for pilots and students who need to submit or review a W&B calc before a flight.
Where to find Weight & Balance
Weight & Balance lives in two places inside Safety Hub:
Safety Hub → Preflight → Weight and Balance — the full submissions register, showing all calculations your team has recorded.
Reservation → Preflight — the checklist that appears when you open a reservation; Complete Weight & Balance is one of the checklist items.
The register is useful for reviewing past calculations. To submit a new one tied to your upcoming reservation, open the reservation's Preflight checklist.
Review the submissions register
The register shows every W&B submission your team can see. The KPI row at the top shows:
Total W&B Submissions — all submissions on record.
Within Limits — calculations where the CG fell inside the envelope.
Out of Limits — calculations outside the envelope. These are flagged for safety review.
Each row shows the Calc ID, Aircraft, Date, Pilot, Weight (with the remaining margin to the limit), Status, Reservation, and any linked Safety Report. Use the search box and the All Statuses filter to narrow the list.
Open a calculation detail
Click any row in the register to open the calculation detail. The detail view is read-only — it shows:
Item / Weight / Arm / Moment table — every load item entered during the Preflight submission.
CG Envelope graph — plots the loaded CG against the aircraft's certified envelope.
Verdict — Within Limits or Out of Limits, calculated automatically.
Because the calculation is submitted through Pilotbase Preflight (the mobile app), the web view is a record of what was entered during preflight, not an editable form.
Note: The W&B calculation is submitted in the Pilotbase Preflight mobile app, which handles the data entry and CG computation. The Safety Hub web view is the management and record layer.
Submit a W&B calculation (reservation edit window)
To attach a W&B calculation to a reservation from the web:
Go to Reservations in the FSP left navigation.
Find your reservation and click View to open the slide-over detail.
In the Preflight checklist, click Complete Weight & Balance.
Fill in the load items as prompted.
Review the CG result, then submit.
Edit-window requirement: The Complete Weight & Balance checklist item only appears when you are within the reservation's edit window (approximately one hour before the event) and you are assigned to the reservation. If you don't see it, check that the reservation is near-now and that you are listed as a crew member.
Link a W&B calculation to a Safety Report
You can link it to a Safety Report for follow-up:
Open the calculation detail from the register.
On the detail view, click Create Safety Report to open a linked report.
The Safety Report column in the register is a read-only count badge showing how many reports are already linked to that calculation — it isn't a control for creating or selecting a report. Linking is done only from the calculation detail view.
This keeps an audit trail connecting the weight-and-balance finding to any corrective action your safety team takes.

Safety Managers and the Accountable Executive can view all W&B submissions across the operator. Other users see only submissions routed to teams they belong to.
Troubleshooting
The Weight & Balance checklist item doesn't appear on my reservation. You are likely outside the edit window, or you are not assigned to that reservation. Create or confirm a near-now reservation with yourself assigned, then try again.
The calculation detail shows a read-only view with no way to edit. W&B data entry happens in the Pilotbase Preflight mobile app. The web register is a read-only record. Use the mobile app to submit or correct values.
