Safety Hub includes a Safety Manual builder for authoring your operation's Safety Management System (SMS) manual inside the app. Instead of maintaining the manual in a separate document and uploading it, you build it from sections and your organization profile, then publish it as a versioned document in your Safety Hub library. This article is for safety personnel responsible for the SMS manual.
What the Safety Manual builder is
The builder has two kinds of input:
Sections — the content of the manual, authored section by section inside Safety Hub.
Organization profile — your operation's details, which the manual draws on so the content stays consistent with who you are.
When you publish, the builder produces a library document in your Documents library. That published document carries:
Versions — each publish creates a new version, with older versions archived but kept.
Acknowledgments (COMING SOON) — a record of who has acknowledged the manual.
Audit history — a trail of changes and actions on the manual.
Stored PDFs — a downloadable PDF of each published version.
In short, the builder is where you write the manual, and the library document is the published, trackable output your team reads and acknowledges.
Where to find it
The Safety Manual lives in your document library.
In the left sidebar, select Documents under the Safety Management group.
If you have not yet created a safety manual, select "Create Safety Manual".
Open the Safety Manual document from the list. It is tagged SMS Manual.
On the document, select SMS Manual Builder (top right) to open the builder, or Edit to make changes.
The document detail shows the manual's owner, current version, folder, when it was created, and when it was last published. A Versions tab lists every published version with its PDF and who published it; an Audit Trail tab records the history. A Visibility panel controls which roles can see the manual.
High-level workflow
The steps below describe the workflow at a high level. Expect the builder to walk you through authoring and then publishing.
Open the builder. From the Safety Manual document, select SMS Manual Builder.
Set your organization profile. Confirm your operation's details so the manual reflects them.
Author the sections. Add and edit the manual's sections until the content is complete.
Publish a version. Publishing creates a new version of the library document and generates its PDF. The previous version is archived, not lost.
Track acknowledgments (COMING SOON). After publishing, use the library document to see who has acknowledged the current version.
Manage versions after publishing
Each publish is a new version. From the Safety Manual document:
Select Add New Version to publish an update.
Select Download on any version to get its PDF.
Older versions are marked Archived but remain available; you can Re-publish a previous version if you need to roll back.
Because every version, acknowledgment, PDF, and audit entry is retained, the Safety Manual gives you a complete, auditable record of your SMS manual over time.
