We've introduced a service fee on Pixlmob, and it's in effect now. This replaces the balance reload fees we've charged for years. Rather than a fee each time you add funds to your balance, it applies to each order you place. The full mechanics are in our help center, but I didn't want a line item to be the whole explanation. Here's the why, from me.
Before Pixlmob was Pixlmob, I founded and ran a successful real estate media company in Upstate South Carolina. So I know what it is to sit down with your numbers and move a price you'd rather leave alone. Every photographer reading this has done some version of it. Adjusting a travel fee that stopped covering the drive. Eating the cost of new software until you can't anymore. It isn't a decision you make quickly, and it isn't one you like making.
Here's the plain math on our side. Card processing fees and international currency conversion are our single largest expenses, and we've absorbed them in full up to now. That was workable for a long time. It isn't any longer, and it gets harder as we keep building: hosting your images on Pixlmob so revisions are actually managed, growing our support team so someone is there when you need them. Rather than raise prices across the board, the honest move is to put that cost where it originates, on the service being purchased.
We've also built real ways around it, and I'd encourage you to take them. Not every payment costs the same amount to process. Card payments are expensive. ACH is a fraction of that. We designed the fee to reflect that difference rather than average it out, so you get the savings directly. Connect a bank account and your service fee drops below 1%. Auto-reload at volume and work with us monthly, and it comes off entirely. That was deliberate. The photographers who work with us most should feel this least. The help center walks through both scenarios.
