Planpage gives you two ways to look at your tasks: List View and Board View. Both show the same information, but the layout and feel are different, so you can choose whichever makes planning feel easier.
Think of it like organizing your workspace. Some planners like a clean, linear list. Others prefer a visual layout where they can move things around. Planpage supports both styles.
What’s the Difference?
List View
This is a structured, top-to-bottom layout.
Tasks appear in rows
Easy to scan quickly
Great for sorting by due date, category, or owner
Ideal for planners who like to see details in one tight place
List View is helpful when you want to review tasks in depth or make sure nothing is slipping through the cracks. Example: If you’re preparing for a busy upcoming week, List View makes it simple to sort tasks by due date and see what needs attention first.
Board View
This view groups tasks by Task Status such as Backlog, Upcoming, In Progress, and Done.
Tasks appear as cards
You can drag cards from one status to the next
Gives a clear picture of overall progress
Great for visual thinkers who like to see movement and flow
Board View is helpful when you want a clear overview of where things stand.
Example: When managing vendor communication, you can move a task into “Waiting” when you’ve sent an email and into “In Progress” once the conversation picks up again.
When to Use Each View
Use List View when...
You want a detailed breakdown of tasks
You need to sort or filter tasks in a specific way
You are assigning work to team members
You prefer a compact, information-dense layout
Use Board View when...
You want to focus on progress, not just the list itself
You are running a meeting and want something more visual
You need to see what is in motion and what is stalled
You want a quick way to update several tasks by dragging cards into new columns
Helpful Tips
Both views show the same tasks
Switching views never removes or reshuffles anything. You are only changing the way you’re looking at your work.
Board View is great for client communication
If clients have access to tasks, Board View gives them a simple, visual understanding of what is happening without needing long explanations.
List View is perfect for focused work sessions
When you want to sit down and power through a batch of emails or confirmations, List View keeps things clean and actionable.
Board View works well for kickoff and wrap-up moments
It helps you map out the early steps of planning and later shows how much has been accomplished.
So Which View Should You Use?
Most planners switch between both. You might start in Board View when you want a big-picture look, switch to List View when you are executing the fine details, then go back to Board View when reviewing progress with a client or team. Use whatever feels right for the moment. Planpage makes it easy to move between the two.
