Some common examples are: Venue, Catering, Floral, Bar & Beverage. Categories are applied to Projects as needed.
What are they for?
Categories are a great way to keep Projects organized and easier to manage. Most items within a Project can be linked to a Category, which then lets you apply filters to "zoom in" on a certain Category. For example, you could apply the "Floral" category filter on the vendors page to see just the florists (especially nice when you're still evaluating multiple vendors for a specific category).

Managing a Project's Categories
To add, edit, or remove Categories from a Project:
Navigate to the Project. In the Project Sidebar, click Categories.
Avoiding Category Chaos
As you've just seen, Categories can be applied to Projects (and items within the Project). You'll also use Categories when creating templates in Planpage. For example... in a Timeline Template, you'll assign Categories to the various entries. Or in a Workflow Template, you'll assign Categories to each Task.
When you apply a template to a specific Project, Planpage automatically compares the categories used in the template against the categories already added to the Project. If a category is matched, the template item is added to it. If not, Planpage first adds that category to the project, then applies the template.
Planners love this because it reduces time spent on manual set up within each Project. This category magic depends on one thing: using consistent category names across your account.
Category Chaos is when you have different names for the same thing. For example...
A category that should always be named Floral.
In Project #1 you named the category Florist
In Project #2 it was named Flowers
In a timeline template, it was named Florals
If you apply this template to Project #2, the project will have Flowers and Florals. Not ideal!
Planpage makes it easy to keep your category names tidy and consistent across your entire account. Category Templates are awesome, and they're simple to set up:
