Discounts make it easy to offer special pricing while keeping your quotes and invoices clear and professional. You can add percentage-based or fixed-amount discounts, apply them to the entire quote or invoice, or limit a discount to specific sections.
Each discount can also include its own name and description, so clients can clearly see the value you're providing.
Overall Discounts vs. Section Discounts
An Overall Discount applies across the quote or invoice as a whole. This is best for things like a general courtesy discount or a percentage off the full package.
A Section Discount only applies to the items within a specific section. For example, you could offer 10% off Rentals while keeping your Planning Services at full price.
Adding an Overall Discount
1. In the Quote/Invoice editor, click the Add Overall Discount button.
2. Enter the discount name and optional description. Then choose a Percentage or Fixed Amount discount. Set the percentage or dollar amount. Then click Add Discount.
Overall Discounts appear in a dedicated Discounts section. They also appear in a Discount row in the quote/invoice totals block. You can add multiple Overall Discounts to a quote/invoice as needed.
Adding a Section Discount
1. In the Quote/Invoice editor, scroll to the section you'd like to discount, then click the Add Section Discount button.
2. Enter the discount name and optional description. Then choose a Percentage or Fixed Amount discount. Set the percentage or dollar amount. Then click Add Discount.
Section Discounts appear as line items at the end of the Section they're applied to.
Section Discounts appear in Quote/Invoice total blocks as a crossed out amount.
F.A.Q.
Can I add more than one discount to a quote or invoice?
Yes. You can add multiple discounts to the same quote or invoice, including a combination of Overall Discounts and Section Discounts.
Can I use both Overall and Section Discounts together?
Yes. For example, you could apply a 10% discount to your Rentals section while also adding a separate Overall Discount to the full quote or invoice.
Can I use a fixed amount instead of a percentage?
Yes. Discounts can be created as either a percentage or a fixed dollar amount.
How do discounts affect taxes?
Discounts reduce the taxable amount before tax is calculated. When a discount applies across both taxable and non-taxable items, Planpage distributes the discount proportionally across those items so the appropriate portion reduces the taxable subtotal.
Will my client see the discount?
Yes. Discounts are displayed directly on the quote or invoice using the name and description you provide, making it easy for clients to see the savings being offered.
Can I edit or remove a discount later?
Yes. Discounts can be updated or removed while editing the quote or invoice.
