Why does the merchant name or location look wrong on my transaction?

Sometimes a transaction will show a different merchant name or location than where you actually made the purchase. This is normal and happens for a few reasons:

The merchant's registered name is different from their store name

Many businesses process payments under a parent company or legal entity name. For example, a local coffee shop might appear as a corporate holding company.

The merchant's registered address is different from the store location

Some merchants process all payments through a head office or payment processor in a different city or country. Online purchases often show the company's headquarters rather than your location.

The map pin doesn't match where you were

The location shown in the app is based on the merchant's registered address, not your physical location at the time of purchase. This information is provided by the payment network and isn’t something we can change.

Map locations are also not always exact, they may only show a general area such as a city or region rather than a specific store or address. We’re working on improving location accuracy over time.

If the amount and date match a purchase you made, the transaction is most likely correct even if the name or location looks off.

If you genuinely don't recognize the transaction at all, see "I don't recognize a transaction on my account" in Security & Fraud.
