How to Cast Your Workouts

Cast your Playbook workouts to Apple TV, Chromecast, Fire TV, and web browser.

Written by Jordan Blake

We've made it easier to cast to your favorite devices

We've added a Cast button right on the class screen, so you can get set up before the workout starts. Pick the device you want to cast to first, and the class opens there straight away. No more start-and-stops or hunting for a hidden button.

What we built for long-form classes:

  • A Cast button on every long-form class

  • Pick the device first, then press play

  • Works with Apple TV, Chromecast, Fire TV, and more

  • Steadier streaming that recovers faster when the internet slips

Note: Casting currently only works for long-form, follow-along Classes. Short-form Workouts are not supported with casting.

Before you start

Whatever device you're casting to, a few things apply across the board:

  1. Connect your phone and your casting device to the same Wi-Fi network.

  2. Make sure your casting device is already set up (via its manufacturer's app/instructions — e.g., Google Home for Chromecast).

  3. Grant Playbook permission to access your Local Network (iOS: Settings > Playbook > Local Network). Without this, Playbook can't detect nearby devices.

How to cast

  1. Open a long-form class in Playbook.

  2. Tap the Cast button on the class screen.

3. Select your device from the list.

4. Press play — your class opens directly on the big screen. Playback controls stay on your phone.

5. To stop casting or switch videos, tap Disconnect.

Chromecast

  • Confirm your Chromecast is set up through the Google Home app.

  • Follow the steps above — Chromecast will appear in your device list.

Apple TV

  • Follow the steps above — Apple TV will appear in your device list once it's on the same network (under AirPlay & Bluetooth devices).

Amazon Fire TV / Fire Stick

  • Follow the steps above — your Fire TV device will appear in the list.

  • On iOS: tap Disconnect before closing the casting window — closing it directly without disconnecting first can leave the session hanging.

Smart TVs

  • Samsung Smart TVs are not currently supported for direct casting. As a workaround, open a browser on your Samsung TV and use Cast2Web, or cast to your laptop browser and connect via HDMI.

Casting to your web browser

Don't see your device in the list, or casting isn't working? You can also stream to a web browser using Cast2Web:

  1. Tap Cast and select Cast to Web Browser.

2. On your laptop, go to cast.playbookapp.io.

3. Scan the QR code shown on your laptop screen using your phone.

4. Unmute the video on your laptop and enjoy — your phone works as a remote control.

Note: Cast2Web only works with long-form videos (like full Classes). Short-form videos and Workouts (reps and sets) cannot be cast to the browser.

Important: Make sure Local Network access is enabled in your device Settings. Without this permission, Playbook cannot detect nearby casting devices.
