What are stars?

The primary indicator of how much a Wordcrafter has learned is stars. Every time a player answers a question correctly, they win 1 star for that word.

TIP: For a question to be considered correct, the player must have selected no wrong choices and they must not have used the hint button.

The first time a player encounters a word and answers the question correctly, they have learned the word and it is added to their library. When a player wins 10 stars for a word, they have mastered the word. In the screenshot of a student's Library below, the star counts for each word are displayed below the word and alongside the student's accuracy for that word.

Total Star Count

A Wordcrafter's total star count is the sum of all stars for every word in their Library. This number only ever grows, because it is impossible to lose stars.

Total star count is displayed in many places:

  • Leaderboards: Wordcrafters compete for positions on top of leaderboards

  • Student Home: total star count is displayed under My Progress

  • Teacher Dashboard: the stars column displays total star counts for every student

TIP: Teachers are encouraged to create assignments and setup games to help students grow their libraries and win stars!
