You can also charge your car via the regular household socket with a simple charging cable that (in many cases) you receive from the car manufacturer.

However, there are some drawbacks to this type of charging:

  • Slow and really is only suitable for Plug-In Hybrids (PHEV) with a small battery.

  • Less safe considering there are no internal safety systems built in, so there is increased risk of short circuits and fire hazards.

  • No separate energy metering, so reimbursement of home charging costs by your employer is not possible.
