You can also charge your car via the regular household socket with a simple charging cable that (in many cases) you receive from the car manufacturer.
However, there are some drawbacks to this type of charging:
Slow and really is only suitable for Plug-In Hybrids (PHEV) with a small battery.
Less safe considering there are no internal safety systems built in, so there is increased risk of short circuits and fire hazards.
No separate energy metering, so reimbursement of home charging costs by your employer is not possible.
