As more pet owners turn to their family pharmacist to fill their pet’s prescriptions, state boards of pharmacy have been amending their reference library requirements to require at least one veterinary drug reference be kept on hand in the pharmacy.

As of November 2020, the following states have required pharmacies dispensing veterinary drugs to have at least one hardcopy or electronic veterinary drug reference on hand:

Many of these states have listed Plumb’s Veterinary Drugs or the printed reference, the Plumb’s Veterinary Drug Handbook, as an option to fulfill the requirement. This recommendation is especially meaningful to veterinarians building relationships with pharmacists in their community.
