Difficulty: Easy

Number of steps: 4

Time commitment: 15 Minutes

Step 1

To begin, navigate to the POAP Events page and click the "Create new POAP" button in the upper right-hand corner of the page.

Step 2

On the page that follows (image below), fill in the details of the event with as much information as possible. Everything on this page (except the POAP image) can be updated later, but providing more information now will increase the likelihood of the drop being approved.

Some notes:

  • If this is an online event, tick the "Virtual Event" box.

  • The Start and End dates should reflect the start and end dates of your physical or online event. If you are unfamiliar with creating POAP drops, it's recommended that the start date be set earlier so you may trial the POAP minting process before the drop begins. Once your trial is complete, return to your event page and modify the start date to reflect the true starting date of the event.

  • "Website" allows you to enter a website of your choosing such as a blog, company webpage, social media account, etc., that will be accessible when someone clicks your event link on the Events page.

  • "Template" is an advanced feature where users can set up a custom POAP claim page (here) to promote their brand/community. The "Standard template" is fine for most users.

  • "POAP's artwork" is where you'll upload your POAP image. Please take note of the following image requirements:

    • Mandatory: PNG/GIF format, measures 500x500px, size <4MB

    • Recommended: Round shape, size <200kB

  • "Edit Code" is the code you'll need to enter in order to edit this drop in the future. It's very important to keep a copy of this, otherwise, you will not be able to change any details of your Drop. The edit code will be included in the Drop creation email you receive after completing this setup process.

  • "Amount of mint links" is where you will request the number of POAP mint links that you'd like to distribute to your community members.

    • Please keep this number as reasonable as possible. If you think your event will have 100 attendees, do not request 500 POAPs. If you need more in the future, you can always request more through the event editing page.

    • Events with 1,000+ attendees will typically need additional information provided during drop requests (covered below) in order to help prevent abuse of the POAP protocol.

    • If you intend to distribute your mint links via a Website, Secret, or Delivery, do not request any mint links on this page. Leave it as "0"

  • "Private Event" may be selected if you'd like to keep the drop undiscoverable on the POAP Events page. This can be a handy feature if you do not want anyone to know of the event, or if you'd like to keep it hidden until the day of the event. It should be noted that while the event will not be displayed in the events list, or be searchable within the events list, the page will still be public and accessible to anyone via https://app.poap.xyz/admin/events/{EventID} if they know the Event ID.

Step 3

Once complete, click "Save" at the bottom of the page. Your drop will now be created; you will receive a confirmation email. The email should look like this:

Some notes:

Your Event ID is the number preceding the name of your Drop:

Your edit code is this number:

If you'd like to edit your drop, you'll need to follow this link:

Step 4: Wait for approval

In order to prevent POAP farming and abuse, all drops are reviewed by the POAP Curation Body prior to "going live" and distribution. This process typically takes around 24 hours.

If your drop is not approved within 24 hours, you may submit a petition for approval on our Discourse forum by following the instructions below:

Visit our Discourse page (https://discourse.poap.xyz) and submit your petition. If you are visiting this page for the first time, you will need to create an account. During account creation, please make sure to check your spam folder for the verification link, as we have had many users report difficulties receiving the link from Discourse.

Instructions can be found within a pinned message titled "Curator Guidelines: How to use this forum," which also be found here

Once your petition is created, it will be reviewed by the POAP Curation Body, which will decide if the drop qualifies based on a set of principles laid out in the POAP Issuer Guidelines.

In short, if your petition does not get approved it is likely for one of the following reasons:

  • Your event description did not provide enough information.

  • Your event does not align with the ethos of POAP.

  • Your artwork was considered subpar/low effort.

  • You requested too many mint links or did not select the appropriate distribution method for your particular use case.

Once your petition is approved, you'll receive an email confirmation that looks like this:

If you requested mint links for manual distribution, a links.txt file will be attached to this email, containing your individual, unique (single-use) mint links.

Once your Event Start Date is triggered, these links can be distributed to your collectors, allowing them to mint or reserve one of your POAPs.
