Can I hide the outstanding balance on the customer invoice?

Yes, You will need to be using the new invoice in order to hide the outstanding account balance. Go to settings->configuration->invoice settings. Select the new invoice if you are currently using Legacy. You will then want to deselect the "Outstanding Balance" check box. Once deselected, the outstanding account balance will no longer show on the invoices--only the current job balance.
