Applying and sharing coupon codes

Learn how to apply and share coupon codes once you've created them.

Written by Rodrigo

After creating a coupon code, you can share it with customers so they can redeem the discount.

Customers can enter the coupon code manually during checkout, or you can share a checkout link that automatically applies the coupon for them.

Applying a coupon code during checkout

Customers can apply a coupon during checkout by entering the coupon code name in the DISCOUNT CODE field and clicking APPLY.

Once the coupon is applied successfully, the discount will be reflected in the checkout total and the Due now amount will update automatically.

Can't see the field during checkout? Ensure your coupon code was created to apply to a specific product/plan.

Applying a coupon code via a discount link

fter creating a coupon, you can share it as a link in emails, posts, buttons, or anywhere else that supports clickable links.

When a customer clicks the discount link, the coupon is applied automatically.

To get the link, click Copy coupon link next to the coupon you want to share.

Where the link takes customers depends on what the coupon applies to:

  • A specific product or subscription plan: The link takes customers to the product sales page or community plan checkout with the discount automatically applied.

  • All products and subscriptions: The link takes customers to your homepage, where eligible products and plans display both their original and discounted prices.

You can follow these steps to manually apply the coupon to a specific product sales page.

FAQs

I can't see a "Have a coupon?" field during checkout! HELP!

Check that the coupon is set to apply to the specific product, event, or plan being purchased. The coupon field won’t appear at checkout if there aren’t any available coupons that apply to that item.

If the coupon is currently set to apply sitewide, try creating a new coupon and applying it only to the specific product, event, or plan.

My coupon code link is not directing customers to the product sales page. Why?

If the coupon has multiple products and/or plans associated with it, the URL will direct the customer to your homepage with the discounted plans and products.

You can manually add the coupon code at the end of your product sales page, though! Here's how:

Standard product page link:
https://university.podia.com/baking-secrets

Example link with coupon applied:
https://university.podia.com/?coupon=BAKING-SECRETS-15

From there, just paste the ?coupon=COUPON-CODE part at the end of your product page link:
https://university.podia.com/baking-secrets?coupon=BAKING-SECRETS-15

Can I apply a coupon code to a checkout link?

Yes! You can have coupon codes applied directly to your checkout links. Here's how:

Standard checkout page link:
https://university.podia.com/cooking-secrets/buy

Example link with coupon applied:
https://university.podia.com/?coupon=COOKING-50

Copy and paste the ?coupon=COUPON-CODE part at the end of your checkout link:
https://university.podia.com/cooking-secrets/buy?coupon=COOKING-50

Can I apply coupon codes to cart links?

No. Coupon codes can only be applied during checkout, not from the cart.

Sharing an add-to-cart link with a coupon attached won’t apply the discount. The coupon must be entered or applied after the customer proceeds to checkout.

Can customers apply more than one coupon during checkout?

No. Only one coupon code can be applied during checkout.

If the customer has multiple products in their cart, the coupon will apply to every eligible product included in the coupon’s settings.

What happens if a coupon is archived during a subscription plan trial period?

If a coupon is archived during the trial period, it will not be applied to the paid plan once the trial ends.

The coupon needs to be applied by the end of the trial period so it can be correctly applied to the subscription plan.

Help! The discount is applying even though I am not using the coupon link.

If you're seeing the original price crossed out and then the discounted amount showing instead, it's possible that you're running into a caching issue!

Due to browser cache settings, the discount is applied to your website without using the link, but your customers will need to use the coupon link to see the discounted amount.

To confirm that this is a caching issue, try to open the normal, non-coupon link from an incognito window and see if the coupon still applies. You should see that the normal price shows.

If you are still seeing the discount applied, reach out to our support team!
