Unsubscribing people from marketing emails

Learn how to unsubscribe your customers from marketing emails.

Someone in your audience wants to be removed from your mailing list, but instead of unsubscribing via the link in an email you've sent, they reach out to you directly instead. Now what?

In this article, we'll go over how to unsubscribe these folks from your emails in a few clicks!


Unsubscribing individual accounts

Opting someone out of receiving your marketing emails can be done in two places: the audience page and their individual profile.

On the audience page

On the audience page, you will locate the customer by searching their name or email address in the search bar.

Once you've found them, you'll click the "..." button at the end of their row and select "Unsubscribe".

A pop-up will appear and you can confirm the action.

On their individual profile

On the audience profile for the person who would like to unsubscribe, click the "..." button on the right-hand side and select "Unsubscribe."

A pop-up will appear, and you can confirm the action.


Bulk unsubscribing accounts

Unsubscribing multiple accounts at once is also easy with our bulk unsubscribe feature.

  1. Click on Audience in the sidebar menu.

  2. Check the boxes next to the accounts you'd like to delete. You can select as many as you'd like and also make use of filters to narrow down your search.


    ​If you've used filters to find specific accounts or would like to delete everyone in your audience, try the "Select all" check box located next to people count number. This will select the check box for every account listed in your view!

  3. Click on the Actions button and select Unsubscribe.

  4. Review the unsubscribe pop-up and confirm the action.


FAQ

Can my audience unsubscribe from my marketing emails on their own?

Yes! They can unsubscribe via the link at the bottom of the email, or they can manage their preferences from within their student account.

Will unsubscribing a customer remove them from the products they purchased?

It will not! It will only opt them out of receiving your marketing emails. To remove them from a product, you can follow the guide here.

Can I re-subscribe customers after they have been unsubscribed?

Once someone opts out from your site, due to rules like CAN-SPAM and GDPR, you can't manually re-subscribe them.

However, they will have the option to easily re-subscribe either through their settings or by re-entering their email on your site form.
