Overview

Exporting data from Polar allows you to analyze your metrics outside the platform, share insights with teammates, and integrate Polar data into other workflows such as spreadsheets, BI tools, or internal reporting systems.

While Polar is designed to centralize and visualize your business performance, there may be times when you need direct access to the raw data behind a report or chart.

Exporting gives you the flexibility to perform deeper analysis, create custom visualizations, or archive historical data.

In this article, you’ll learn:

  • How to export data from dashboards and custom reports

  • What export limitations to be aware of

  • Options for automating exports and sharing data externally

Exporting Data from Reports and Dashboards

Polar allows you to export raw data from supported reports and custom tables as a CSV file. This makes it easy to work with your data in tools like Excel, Google Sheets, or other analytics platforms.

How to Export a Report

To download data from a Custom Table or Chart:

  1. Open the report you want to export.

  2. Click the three dots (⋯) in the top-right corner of the report.

  3. Select Download.

  4. The data will be exported as a CSV file.

This export contains the underlying dataset used to generate the report, including all selected metrics, dimensions, and filters.

Important Notes

  • Exports include raw tabular data, not the chart visualization.

  • If you need to recreate the visual, you can use the exported CSV to build charts in tools like Excel or Google Sheets.

  • Most dashboards and reports support exporting.

However, Key Indicator dashboards cannot be downloaded directly. If you need those metrics outside Polar, exporting raw data from related reports or using scheduled reports is recommended.

Export Limits and Data Volume

When working with large datasets, it’s important to understand the export limits in Polar.

Row Limits

  • Inside the Polar app, reports display up to 1,000 rows while you work.

  • When exporting, you can download up to 100,000 rows in a single export.

Exporting Larger Datasets

If your dataset exceeds the export limit:

  1. Reduce the date range of your report.

  2. Export multiple smaller files.

  3. Combine them in your spreadsheet or data warehouse.

Best Practices

To keep exports manageable and easier to analyze:

  • Filter reports to focus on the most relevant dimensions

  • Avoid unnecessary breakdowns that increase row counts

  • Export only the metrics you need

This helps reduce file size and improves performance when working with the data externally.

Automating Data Exports

For teams that regularly need access to Polar data outside the platform, automated exports can help streamline reporting.

Automated exports can send report data directly to Google Sheets on a scheduled basis (available on certain plans).

Requesting Automated Exports

To set up an automated export, contact the Polar Support team via in-app chat and provide the following details:

  • Report name and link (from the report URL)

  • Filters or views to apply

  • Email recipients

  • Date range

  • Data granularity (daily, weekly, monthly)

  • Export frequency (how often the report should refresh)

Polar will configure the export using the same metrics and dimensions defined in your custom report.

This is especially helpful for:

  • Weekly performance reports

  • Automated marketing dashboards

  • Data pipelines into Google Sheets workflows

Conclusion

Exporting data in Polar gives you greater flexibility to analyze and share your analytics outside the platform. By downloading the underlying data from reports and dashboards, you can perform deeper analysis, build custom visualizations, or integrate Polar insights into your existing reporting workflows.

Key takeaways:

  • Export raw report data as CSV directly from reports.

  • Most dashboards support exporting, but Key Indicator dashboards do not.

  • Exports allow up to 100,000 rows per download.

  • Larger datasets can be exported by splitting date ranges.

  • Automated exports can send data directly to Google Sheets on supported plans.

If you need help configuring exports or setting up automated reports, reach out to the Polar Support team via in-app chat.
