How to Write a Great Profile Bio
How to Write a Great Profile Bio

Your guide to telling parents about you! πŸ™ˆ πŸ™ˆ

Updated over a year ago

The about me section of your profile is your chance to convey exactly who you are as a caregiver, showcase your skills and let families know about your interests and experience. In this article we'll talk you through what to include and give you some good examples for inspiration.

1. Tell your story

Besides reviews, families only have your bio information to learn about you as a caregiver. This is an important aspect of your Poppet profile; make it shine! Be creative, welcoming, open, and most importantly, be yourself. After all, your Poppet profile is an extension of you, so taking time with your bio will be quite the benefit in the long run.

Here are some questions to think about when writing your about me:

  • What are your hobbies and passions?

  • Where did you grow up?

  • What's your current job? What previous jobs have you done?

  • What languages do you speak?

  • What's your family set up, do you have kids or look after anyone in your extended family?

  • What did you like doing as a kid?

  • What kind of music do you like?

  • What’s your favourite sport?

  • What kind of books do you like?

  • What type of movies are you into?

  • What do you enjoy most about being a Poppet caregiver?

2. Highlight Your Childcare Experience

Your certificates and professional experience are summarised in the highlights on your profile, but it can be useful to give the context about these qualifications, like what knowledge and skills you gained. It's a great idea to provide anecdotes to bring this experience to life.

Along with your qualifications be sure to include any valuable life experience you have.

Whether you've cared for siblings or nurtured your own children, families really value this real-life experience as much as any formal qualification!

3. Showcase Skills Your Families Will Love

As well as highlighting things like punctuality and reliability that parents value, be sure to include any specific skills and strengths that your real customers - kids - will love! You could include your mastery of LEGO construction, excellent football skills, or love for making the tastiest blueberry pancakes!

4. Share Your Childcare Philosophy and Approach

Is there anything you champion when it comes to how you care for young hearts and minds? This could include care and educational principles like baby-led weaning, forest school, Montessori-inspired learning, gentle or attachment parenting.

Try to describe your approach and what you value as important, especially things like how you prioritise safety, encourage learning through play, or foster positive relationships with the children in your care. This helps families understand your values and ensures alignment with their expectations.

5.. Choose an Inspiring Tagline

Your tagline should convey the essence of your offering. Choose descriptive and inspiring words that will encourage families to check out your profile. Below are some examples to inspire you.

6. Examples to Inspire You

Here are 3 great examples of profiles that will inspire you as your write you about me:

Sara - Offering Nature-Inspired Care for Flourishing Minds

Hi there! I'm Sara, an enthusiastic and nurturing person ready to join your family's journey. As a child, I spent endless hours exploring nature in my hometown in Yorkshire, fostering a deep appreciation for the outdoors. Now, I bring that love for nature into my caregiving, organising nature walks and engaging outdoor activities.

I worked as a teaching assistant in a local primary school for ten years, where I cared for children of different abilities, including with special educational needs (SEND) before having my own family.

My children are 6 and 8 years and I love to create a stimulating and joyful environment where children can grow, learn, and flourish.

Alex - Caring and experienced babysitter who loves story time and music

Hi I'm Alex! I'm excited to meet you and help your family. I'm currently completing a degree in nursing. I have been enjoying helping local families with babysitting on evenings and weekends for the last 3 years while I study. I grew up in a large family and cherished caring for my younger siblings from an early age.

I've been told I have a flair for storytelling and am passionate about playing music, especially the piano. I enjoy creating imaginative play experiences, singing songs, and introducing little ones to the wonders of classic children's literature.

I enjoy meeting lots of different types of families through Poppet and being able to help when they need an extra pair of hands!

Maxine - Experienced childminder offering a nurturing home and Montessori-inspired learning

Hi I'm Maxine. I am a Registered childminder and a qualified Early Years Educator with over 20 years of childcare experience and a degree in Health and Social Care.

I now work part-time alongside caring for my 3 grandchildren. Our home has a fully equipped playroom with hand-picked learning resources for children of all ages. My caring and teaching approach is inspired by teachings from Montessori practice and the Curiosity Approach.

I would love to welcome your little ones in our home - we have a lovely big garden equipped with tree house and tyre swing, waiting for them to enjoy!
