When Your Chat Isn't Listening: Use the Feedback Prompt

Use AI to train you on how to get better results

Updated over 7 months ago

Before you blame the AI, let's be real: 90% of the time, the problem isn't the AI - it's how you're talking to it or what information you've given it access to.

Here's how to diagnose what's actually going wrong and turn yourself into someone who gets killer results from AI every time.

The Brutal Truth About "Bad" AI Responses

When your chat is giving you responses that suck, it's usually because:

  • You're not being specific enough in your prompts

  • The AI doesn't have the right information to work with

  • You've connected too much irrelevant stuff to your chat

  • Your conversation history is confusing the AI

Translation: The AI isn't broken. Your approach needs work.

The Chat Feedback Process (Step-by-Step)

Step 1: Copy Your Problematic Chat History

  1. Go to your chat that's giving you crappy responses

  2. Drag and scroll to select all of your chats history

  3. Copy it (command + c/ Control + c)

Step 2: Create Your Feedback Setup

  1. Press "C" to open a completely new, blank chat

  2. Press "T" to create a text box

  3. Paste your chat history into the text box

  4. Label the text box: **"Chat History"**

  5. Connect this text box to your new chat

Step 3: Connect Everything from Your Original Chat

Connect all the same files, documents, and knowledge base materials that were attached to your problematic chat. This new chat needs to see exactly what the original chat was working with.

Step 4: Send Your Feedback Request

In your new chat, type a message with two parts:

Part 1: Explain what's not working

Example: "My previous chat is not listening to how long my script should be and the formatting of my script. No matter how many times I give it feedback on the length and the formatting of the script that I want, every response gets farther and farther from what I want."

Part 2: Paste this feedback prompt

I'd like you to analyze my recent chat history and compare it with the available knowledge base materials. Please identify:

1. Any patterns in my inputs that might be negatively affecting the quality of responses
2. Specific examples where my prompting style could be improved
3. Whether there are inconsistencies between my expectations and the information available in the knowledge base
4. Suggestions for more effective prompting techniques that would yield better results

Please provide concrete examples from my chat history where applicable, and offer actionable recommendations for improvement.

Hit send and watch the magic happen.

What You'll Get Back

The AI will analyze your entire chat history and give you specific, actionable feedback like:

  • "You're asking for a 500-word script but your examples are all 1,500 words"

  • "You're not being specific about tone - 'professional' could mean anything"

  • "You have conflicting information in your knowledge base"

  • "Your prompts are too vague - here's how to be more specific"

Turn This Into Your AI Training Chat

Don't stop here. Keep using this same chat as your personal AI trainer. Follow the actionable steps. Ask the chat to walk you through the next steps.

What to Do With the Feedback

Once you get your analysis:

  1. Start a completely new chat for your actual work

  2. Edit your knowledge base - add missing information, remove conflicting stuff

  3. Apply the prompting improvements and other feedback given to you

The Real Solution: Better Inputs = Better Outputs

Here's what most people don't get: AI is only as good as what you give it. If your chat is making up random information, it's because you haven't given it the right information to work with.

Stop doing this:

  • Vague prompts like "make this better"

  • Connecting irrelevant files to your chat

  • Expecting the AI to read your mind

  • Blaming the AI when you haven't been clear

Start doing this:

  • Specific, detailed prompts

  • Only connect relevant information

  • Give examples of what you want

  • Take responsibility for the quality of your inputs
