Mind Maps: Visual Organization That Actually Works

How to use Mind Maps

Updated over 9 months ago

Mind maps help you organize complex information visually instead of dealing with endless text lists. If you're a visual learner or need to see how ideas connect, this feature turns messy thoughts into clear, actionable structures.

Two Ways to Create Mind Maps in Poppy

Method 1: AI-Generated Mind Maps

Let Poppy create mind maps for you automatically.

How to Generate Mind Maps:

  • Look for "Create Mind Map" button right above your chat text box

  • Type your request naturally: "Create a mind map about [your topic]"

  • Use slash commands for quick access

  • The AI understands context and generates structured visual maps

What Makes This Powerful:

  • Uses Your Knowledge Base: Poppy pulls from all connected sources to create comprehensive maps

  • Internet Integration: Can research current trends and information to enhance your mind map

  • Smart Organization: Automatically structures information hierarchically

Example Request:

"I've collected a bunch of AI trends. I want you to look up the internet for the trends this month. I want you to generate video titles out of it. And I want you to also attach a short description and make this into a mind map."

Method 2: Manual Mind Map Creation

For hands-on control, create mind maps manually:

Basic Creation

  • Press M on your keyboard or click the Mind Map icon

  • Start with your central topic or theme

  • Press Tab to create child branches (sub-topics)

  • Press Enter to create sibling branches (same level topics)

  • Type your ideas directly into each node

Navigation and Editing

  • Click to Edit: Click any node to edit its text

  • Drag to Rearrange: Move branches around to reorganize

  • Delete Nodes: Select and press Delete key

Convert Existing Content to Mind Maps

Got screenshots or written notes in mind map format? Poppy can convert them:

"I've attached an image regarding emerging trends in AI and ML. Could you convert this into a mind map, please?"

What Mind Maps Are Great For

Decision Making

Map out different options, pros and cons, and decision criteria. When you can see all factors visually, choices become clearer.

Note Taking and Research

Instead of linear notes, create visual maps that show how concepts connect. Perfect for organizing research, meeting notes, or learning materials.

Process Documentation

Turn SOPs and workflows into visual processes. Your team can see the entire flow and understand how each step connects.

Project Planning

Break down complex projects visually. See tasks, dependencies, and deliverables in one organized view.

Remember, the goal isn't to create perfect mind maps—it's to create visual thinking tools that help you move from ideas to results faster. Start simple, iterate often, and let your mind maps evolve with your projects.
