How to link materials, parts and products

A step towards great masterdata is to specify it into materials/parts and link them to products. To ensure full traceability

We recommend that your data be specified into components (a headboard, mattress, etc.), which are linked together to a product (a bed). This requires creating a connection between the individual component and product.

How to link an existing part to a product:

  1. Make sure you have created a part and remember the name of it. Important: A part need to be set to Live (not draft) to be linkable.

  2. Go to your preferred product and go to the "Data" tab.

  3. Find the attribute "Material Type". If its not shown under "Product Details" list, find it via the search bar in the "Attributes" section og the left.

  4. Now you can ad materials/parts. In the "Name" section search for the given part your want to link to the product. Now add Quantity and the unit.

  5. Remember to save with the checkmark on the right.

  6. You can now add more parts and materials.

Keep ind mind: You can type in parts/materials that are not created. Then they will figure as a "dummy part" on this one product. We do not recommend this. We recommend spending the extra time on creating live parts to make the best long term traceability.

How to link a new part to a product:

  1. Go to your preferred product and go to the "Data" tab.

  2. Find the attribute "Material Type". If its not shown under "Product Details" list, find it via the search bar in the "Attributes" section og the left.

  3. Now you can ad materials/parts. In the "Name" section give the part a name of your choice. Now add Quantity and the unit.

  4. Remember to save with the checkmark on the right.

  5. You have now created a "dummy part" with no real data. To convert this into a part use the + on the right. You now land on a new page where you can add more data for the part you have created.

How to link multiple products, suppliers, parts, or packaging:

  1. Go to the Overview list of the given document (if you want to link products, go to the Product overview list).

  2. Select the documents you want by clicking the blue check mark next to each product.

  3. Click the green "Actions" button.

  4. Then choose one of the following:

    • Assign Supplier

    • Attach Part

    • Attach Packaging

    • Attach to Product

  5. You can now search and select multiple documents. Press link documents to complete the linking.
