Search relevance settings

Fine-tune how Prefixbox ranks and returns search results for your store.

Updated this week

Search relevance settings control which fields matter most when matching search queries, correct typos automatically, and even use your order history to improve sorting. These settings help ensure your shoppers see the most relevant products first — even if they make typos or use less common terms.

You can find this in Configuration > General > Search relevance.

Spell correction

Help shoppers find the right results even if they mistype their search.

When Enable spell correction is turned on, Prefixbox will automatically correct up to two character mistakes in a search term.

This means:

  • It can fix single or double typos (e.g., t-shritt-shirt).

  • It uses a so called "fuzzy search" logic — so even if the customer types the wrong character or swaps two letters, relevant results still appear.

  • It won’t try to “guess” terms that are too different, keeping results relevant.

Order-based relevance

Use your store’s order history to boost best-selling products in results.

When you click Enable, you’ll be asked to grant Prefixbox access to order data. This allows:

  • Better ranking right after installation (when behavior data isn’t yet available).

  • Activation of the Best selling sorting option on search and collection pages.

Update additional access rights the same way as during the Prefixbox app install

💡 Hint: Access is optional and can be revoked anytime without affecting other Prefixbox features.

Search weights

Control how important each product field is in the search algorithm.

For each field — whether a standard Shopify field or a custom metafield you’ve added in Field management — you can set its weight to:

  • None — Ignored by search relevance

  • Low — Low impact on ranking

  • Medium — Balanced importance

  • High — Strong influence on ranking

Adjust weights at the field level

⚠️ Important: There’s no single “best” way to set relevance weights — it depends on your product catalog. Random or poorly planned changes here can significantly hurt your search results. Consider factors like how detailed your product descriptions are and which fields store your most important product information.
