Synonyms let you connect different words shoppers might use for the same product — ensuring they see the right results, no matter which term they search for.
You can find this in Configuration > General > Synonyms.
The view before adding any synonyms
Adding synonyms
When adding a synonym, the search term acts as the trigger — the main term that matches products in your catalog. Only one trigger can be set for each rule.
You can then add one or more alternative terms as synonyms. If a shopper searches for any of these synonyms, results containing the trigger term will appear.
Example:
Search term: bicycle
Synonyms: bike, mountain bike, road bike
Searching for “mountain bike” will return products that contain “bicycle” in their title or description.

💡 Hint: In multilingual stores, use the language dropdown to add synonyms separately for each language.
Managing synonyms
Click Add synonym to create a new rule.
Use the language selector (top right) to manage synonyms per language.
Once you’re done, click Save — changes usually appear in your store within 5–10 minutes.
